I think there is a difference between walking past your tank a few times a day and the workout a coffee table gets.

Our table is constantly being used, for coffee cups, books, candles etc. Not to mention to put you feet up on.

The whole thing strikes me as very impractical.
Thank you Eve
Very nice to have you back

(oops wrong smiley, sorry Hun)
Well my coffee table is glass at the moment and I do not put my feet up on it. But what I am trying to say is this. If you take your money to purchase this item, to be the centepiece of a room, I would think you treat is as a tank and not a table.

Most people add candles, magazines and stuff like that as decoration for thier tables, the fish give the table its "decoration"

Thats like saying you love off roading in your old jeep wrangler, then you buy a luxury suv, yea it can do it, but your not gonna take it off road.

Yea its a table, but I dont think if you invest in one you will treat like table, but like a tank.

Gee, would that be why I said I found it impractical?

some of them, like the one that looks flat isnt really that good for some fish. I think that fast schooling fish, that are small, would do good in there. And the ones on bizare aquariums, or what ever its called, are just like normal tanks. Except I think for the light.

If people use them properly, like actuall fish tanks there is nothing wrong with them.

And I dont think they should be called death tanks. Thats ridiculous. Any tank can be a death tank, depending on how it is taken care of.

I think most everyone in the thread agrees these are not the most practical of tanks. I also think what some of us have an issue with is the rant that these types of tanks, in and of themselves, are "cruel" or "death tanks".

I agree. As I said when this post first started, Whilst not as practical as a standard fish tank, They are certainley not the death traps, and cruel tanks that they were made out to be in the original post (sorry Danio :D ).
Personally, I think some of them look really nice, and whilst overpriced, I would love to have one, but if I did get one, I wouldn't use it like I use my coffee table now. It would be used as a display piece.
Anyway, nuff said (from me anyway!!!) :D

I have read this topic with great interest .. and share alot of the opinions of others. I guess this is what you're talking about........

I mean really ...what are these guys on?.. and can I have some? :p

I have a little titter to myself as you can see below my own tank falls into the *Buy it for a talking point* cat... But to be honest my fish love it!! and its a fab idea if you have fish that sometimes don't get on as my Gouramis don't. They can have thier own space..yet still no there is company of thier own type if they need it. Plus my Tetras treat the tunnells like a F1 circuit :hyper:

But if you're looking for crap ideas that are totally impractical how about these.... :S

Could you imagine trying to vacum clean your gravel in that? .. My god you would need a long tube :hyper:

And this is even worse... great they can swim one way.. but the poor buggers can't turn around to swim back.. plus all the problems with cleaning.. its a crap ideas taken to a new level of pointlessness.. excuse my spelling folks

Impractical as a fishtank...but it'd make a good prison for one of those kids. ;)

Yes that is exactly what I'm taking about,
How many fish can you see in that picture?
I make it 16

£1200..lol
Where did that figure come from.. You can buy them from around £500 for the saller upto £750 for the larger.. and if you go on e.bay you can pick the big ones up for less than £500 .

But No I wouldn't pay that amount either Just think the size and quality of fish tank you could get for that money!.. no contest me thinks! :kana:

If you look on the marketing pictures for a lot of tanks, foodsand many fish products, they show overstocked tanks, incompatible fish etc. etc.
Have a look at this thread for an example.
It's just a marketing picture. Clearseal do say the maximum number of fish you can keep in it.

Well that's one of the impraticalities, really, isn't it? You spend so much money for a fish tank coffee table, but you wouldn't want to use it as a coffee table. Surely the sensible way around it would be to get a coffee table AND a fish tank... seperately. Then you'd have a table to put things on and use, and a fish tank to put your fish in!! It'd probably be cheaper too!! :p

I don't think they're 'death tanks', but they're a bit stupid really. I'd rather have a proper tank...

rsz ^_^

Edit: a quick afterthough... I'd rather ditch the whole coffee table thing and have two fish tanks!! Afterall, if you need to put something down, there's always the floor
