is there short bursts of many clicks, or just one click here and there? Is it a tapping or a bang? My pistol has big bang, very distinctive, i could probably hear it in the room across from mine. It only pops once though, very rairly in bursts. Ive heard mantis's do it in bursts to make sure that the prey is dead.

I haven't heard it since the original post. It is extremely infrequent so I am not worried to much. The most likely cause is snails getting near corners where there is a lot of flow to blow them around. Even with the wavebox off there is over 13,500 LPH of flow in the tank.

Astrea snails e.g. twist their shell with a sudden movement even when on a live rock and in a low flow area. I couldn't find out why. To me it has to do with their manner of propagation.

If they do this twisting and accidentally hit the glass then it does this sound as someone knocks with a pebble on the glass.
