1) The correct spelling is pseudotropheus lombardoi, but the correct scientific name is actually metriaclima lombardoi commonly know as a kenyi cichlid, and I'm fairly sure that is the correct id, you're friend's is a young female. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=798

2) The pic is pretty blurry, but I think it is a male iodotropheus sprengerae, commonly known as the Rusty cichlid. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=707

3) Most likely a stressed out pseudotropheus acei, IME you don't see barring on them unless they are stressed or getting ready to breed. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1460

here are some more photos, bear in mind they might not all be different species some might be the same

1,4and 6 look like lombardoi's all female ones, number 6 is definately the nicest one.

and 3,5 look like the yellow finned acei's,

not sure what number 2 is. :good:

I think there is 3 Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" 2 Metriaclima lombardoi in the pictures as well as 1 male Labidochromis caeruleus 1 male Cynotilapia afra. There is also some other fish (used to be a community tank) a red tail shark 2 yo yo loachs a common plec 2 false flying foxs 2 small cories and a 4 inch long tyre track eel in a 35 gallon tank, Its got a large box filter that the tank came with as well as a seperate internal filter and a buble filter. He says that his plec is going in our grandads pond when it becomes 8 inches or so and the tyre track eel go into his mates big tank when it gets big or aggressive i think its about 120 gallons (its got some pretty big fish in it). I told him that when the cichlids grow they will kill off some of the other fish most of which are at least 4 years old.

i definately see 2 acei's not a third one though, and defo 2 lombardoi's the, number 1 may not be a lombardoi but certainly looks like one. I dont think number 2 is an acei. Certainly not seeing any yellow labs, which ones did you think were the afra's? they look similar but I am not sure they are them...

where do you live? I wouldn't be putting a plec in a pond, unless I lived somewhere warm even then I wouldn't, incase something happened to it. yo yo loaches get pretty big too, none of the fish above are compatible with african cichlids (bar maybe the pleco). So how many cichlids are in the 35 gallon community tank? They would also need a larger tank than that.

The way I understood it was that these fish were in your LFS and you wanted to ID them before you bought them. (sorry just noticed its your cousins tank)

yeah i told him most of what you just said, sorry not all of the cichlids he has needed ids as he got 2 from another shop the male Labidochromis caeruleus and the male Cynotilapia afra which he knew what they are it was just 4 juves bought from lfs that just had mbuna cichlid on the tank (6 pics but actually only 4 fish) He wants to overstock his 35 gallon to avoid aggression and is well filtered. Its his understanding (explain if wrong and don't shoot the messenger) but its the aggression of the fish not the size of them that requires the larger tank as most of them don't grow above 3" .

just found out its a rio 180 tank which is 39 gallons approx not 35 as ive been saying

A rio 180 should be ok I had about 10 in a vision 180 till I upgraded to a rio 300. mbuna range in zize I think average size is about 4-5 inches, certainly the aceis and lombardois get alot bigger than 3 inches when adult grown, They need large terratories, which is why they need a large tank, with lots of hiding spaces, but he could get up to 10 cichlids maybe twelve depending on the species he gets. I am no expert yet though someone else would guide you better on the stocking. :good:

Thanks a lot im sure he will appreciate your help when i send him the link to the thread later i think he is fine with just the 6 at the moment although he said he did want a couple of red coloured cichlids if he could find them.

cool remind him to be careful not to mix haps with mbuna, both are cichlids but haps are caniverous (sp) and mbuna are veggies better of going for one or the other as it can cause problems at feeding time as you dont want the mbuna to eat the meaty foods due to malawi bloat, Only saying this as I know there are red coloured haps out there and I haven't seen many red coloured mbuna for sale.

In the first pictures, #2 definitely is a Metriaclima greshakei (red top zebra) female (same fish as #3 and #5 in the second batch?) and #1 seems to be a lombardoi. #3 can be another zebra but it's hard to tell if it's not even an hybrid. I don't see an acei.

I was reckoning number 3 in the first set was an acei, number 2 could well be a female greshake but its not very clear.

I think that the fish in pic 5 in the second set is far too dark to be a female greshake, but then again as I mentioned before I am no expert yet, it just my opinion. but anyhow it gives you a starting point.
