First, a little about myself:

I'm a very tall man. I occasionally wear rimless eye glasses because they seem to compliment my face.. I actually have very good eyesight and don't require prescription lenses. About thirty years ago (when I was about thirty years old) I began to study and practice the mind control techniques of Fran Tarkenton (former quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings professional sports team). I drive a green Toyota Fit (current year's model).

Now that you know a little bit about me, I think you'll understand where I'm coming from and hopefully you'll be able to help me make my life a little bit better. I recently inherited a fairly large aquarium from an aunt I didn't really know all that well (she died of the consumption). I was fortunate enough to inherit the aquarium (along with her silverfish collection), but unfortunately, I did not inherit her vast knowledge of silverfish behavioral science. Don't get me wrong.. I really enjoy having the silverfish.. I am always looking forward to coming home from work since I know I have a large aquarium full of silverfish waiting for me. There is a problem, though. I hope you don't think ill of me for admitting this, but I sometimes get a little bored with the silverfish. I was thinking of maybe throwing in a Cichlid or two to spice things up. Is that a bad idea? I don't really want to disturb the silverfish since I know Cichlids have been known to agitate in a new environment. I'd appreciate any guidance this community can offer me.

Yours Sincerely,
Coach Ron Miles

ps. I might have been a bit too harsh when I said I was 'bored' of the silverfish. I think the hot weather is making me a little testy.

Hello, welcome to forum, As to this question, when you say silver fish, which do you mean?

Silver bala sharks/ silver dollars / silver hatchet fish / cigar barbs to name a few.

As to cichlids, again there are 100s of varietys, what size tank do you have? length / width / height, this way we can assitain what style of cichlids you can go for,.

Depends what you mean by 'silverfish' and how many you have, aquarium dimensions etc. The only silverfish I know of are the ones that live in carpets and ruin them.

My silverfish look similar to what is pictured below:

I'm not sure what kind of Cichlid I should be considering. I guess I'd want for it to be able to sit in my hand... so not too big, I guess.

Thanks for your help, nelly!

It's a silverfish. Most of mine are a little fatter than that one, though. I probably have a little over a hundred of them (I don't know if my aunt named them or not, but I haven't had time to give them all names). The aquarium is about the size of a couple of moose calves stacked on top of each other so there is still enough room for a Cichlid, I think.

Certainly enough room for a cichlid. Just make sure you water it regularly and avoid feeding after midnight. Otherwise they'll multiply and molt like you wouldn't believe.

Sorry am i missing something here? The silverfish in the picture are insects. If you had these in a tank(they are actually considered a pest)How could you add fish?silverfish(pic)dont live in water...fish unsurprissingly do.

Yours confused

This thread is turning more weird by the minute

Color me skeptical

Yes this is comical,,but i think op has a good sense of humour, however as to silverfish they co be the tri ops?

Here coach google Notostraca

Yeah iam realising this is a wind up

weve got coach and airborne both new...lol,,,very good

That would explain why there wasn't water in the aquarium when the courier delivered it. I figured they emptied it to make it deliverable. I guess I'll take the water out.. I guess they are able to survive a few days in water at least. If i have to dry out the aquarium, then I guess my plan of adding a Cichlid wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. This is a disappointing development.. sometimes I wish my aunt hadn't died. She was a lot better with silverfish than I am. Maybe I can find something else to accompany the silverfish, though. What air breathing animal is most closely related to Cichlids?
