well at least you have got most your stuff like the LR!

I emailed ND Aquatics last night asking if i was able to pick it up today (saturday) expecting them to say no as they are normally only open mon - fri. to my surprise they were open so after abit of hard work in the morning covered in dirt i took a trip there to pick up my tank.

It looks great and am glade that i choose ND. Even after changing my mind several times everything is perfect.

Only thing i would change is one of the holes i had drilled in the back is abit close to the weir but that was my fault.
The glass is only 8mm instead of the 10mm it was meant to be but i was offered the tank as it was with money back or they would totally rebuild the tank in 10mm.

anyway im very pleased with it and will try and get some pictures.

Tomorrow i have to strengthen the floor abit as it will be a fair amount of weight on a single 4x2 joist in such a small foot print.

Chris

Floor has been strengthened abit now, so should tank the extra weight. The glass tank alone is just as heavy than the old tank with 2 inches of stones and 2 inches of water in!

Also got a few pictures of the tank

Looks good.
Carnt wait to see the LR in it.
What you thinking about having in it?
How much live rock.
Corals?
Fish?
Etc.
Sorry if you think im abit nosey.

Thanks all. Only thing im not to happy about is where one of the holes it. i asked for it to be put there so its my fault anyway lol and wish i went a little bit deep lol who doesnt want there tank to be bigger?

It will be a while before that happens. Unfortunately it will be sitting like this for a month or so as im going to let the LR cycle the tank while im away on holiday

What you thinking about having in it?
Will start as a FOWLR but will get a corals and hopefully if the tank is suitable an anemone?

How much live rock.
About 10kg in the tank (Might be more as i would like a big pile around the wier to hide it abit) and an extra 5kg in the sump.

Corals?
Will have a couple of soft corals after i get the hang of marine and everything goes well.

Fish?
Not too sure yet. A pair of clowns and a few other smaller fish which i haven't really decided on (still have 2-3months before i get to that stage). Would like a mandarine in there but would prefer to have an easier maintance fish to start off with.

Etc.
Sorry if you think im abit nosey.
No not at all ask away if you want any other details.

Yeah them mandarines are amazing fish.
Im still learning about marines.
Could you tell me a little bit more about the live rock cycling?
And can you have to much LR in a marine tank?
Is this your first marine tank?
And this might sound silly, but what are the holes for?

Regards

Err tbh im not too sure about LR cycling, as far as i know you mix the salt+ ro water add it to the the tank then add the LR. The Die off from the LR cause ammonia which cycles the tank.

Ive heard you can and carnt have to much LR. I dont think you can have too much imo.

yes this is my first tank

I have 3 holes in the rear and 1 in the base.

The one in the base (within the blue weir) is for the durso to drain the water into the sump. Instead of having powerheads im going to use extra/bigger pumps in the sump to make up for it and will return the water though the 3 holes in the back of the tank.

Im going to have about 20x turnover though the sump which will then flow though the 3 holes rather than the normall flow though one with a powerhead or 2 in the tank. The way im doing it Means no powerheads in the tank.

If you want more info on it let me know

The die off from the dead matter on the LR will cause an ammonia cycle. First ammonia, then nitrite, then nitrate. You should always have 0 ammonia and nitrite after the initial cycling phase is completed. Keep in mind you can still have ammonia in the tank after the initial adding of the rock after the test kit reads 0. The rock may just be able to keep up with it to keep it low on the test kit. I waited an extra 2 weeks after I showed 0 ammonia, I believe, before I got my first fish. As of now I still only have my first fish which were added mid April. Could've waited longer to add them, but didn't.

#2 Yes you can have to much live rock in a tank. However, asthetics usually prevents the cramming in of the rock. It could pose a problem if it was packed tight and it hampered water flow.

Mandy's are amazing delicate fish that usually die of starvation. Make sure to fully read up on them before buying one.

A boring update really, but ive just got in from remaking my stand. Im adapting a piece of furniture from my bedroom to hold the tank and sump. Only problem i have is i ran out of wood because i cut one bit about 2 inches too short if i didn't it would be done.

Next i will be attempting to cut some 4mm glass for my sump (this use to be on the furniture im adapting). If it goes well it will be added to the sump. If not i will get either some perspex cut or some glass done proberly.

After this the next step will be the plumbing. I wont be doing this until STM have the skimmer i wont in as its an hour each way trip and not worth going if they don't have it all there!

Chris

No update is boring. We love hearing about all parts of your progress :good:

Photos would be great too ;) so we can see what and how your doing. We are all really nosey you know
