I recently got some new fish for my small tropical tank, they were called "Chocolate Tetras" in the fish shop but ive searched and searched but i cant find anything on them....

I have got a picture but im not sure how to post it....

Does anyone know anything about them?

If you want to post click on the browse button near the bottom and look for the pic you want to add.

EDIT: I googled it and couldn't find anything.

hi dave,

unfourtanetly there is no chocolate tetra.

I saw them @ work, they are a dyed tetra. the dye is painted on and should wear off in time.

i am not sure which tetra they really are as i did not see any that had the dye wearing off.

add the pic in the gallery

thanks psgill00,

If you guys could try and help me find out what tetras they are then that would be great,

but im stil not sure where and how 2 post my picture :S

You'll see the browse button in Member's Aquarium and Fish Pictures forum

You'll find it here just start a new topic and the browse button will show up under your reply.

Chocolate Tetra is not a common name I am familiar with. A lot of places make up names on the spot if they are not sure what somethig is. There are a lot of painted/dyed fish around with "edible" sounding names as well, Blueberry, Strawberry...

Not all the forums here allow picture uploads, follow Sorrels advice and post the pictures in Members Aquarium Pictures.

I saw a "chocolate" tetra in one shop, the next shop down the road had exactly the same fish labled as a coffee bean tetra. mayhaps this is what you have?

thanks for all the help guys,

How long will the dye last? or is there anythink i can do 2 remove it without harming the fish, other fish, plants etc ??

ill post the picture when im back home

cheers again

If it is a dyed/painted fish, (and we are not sure yet), the dye/paint will come off on it's own. Dyed/painted fish have been through enough already, trying to remove it would probably be the last straw.

>>> post the picture when im back home

Just ask if you have trouble posting the picture.
