I have recently again been thinking of getting a chinchilla. I have 3 house rabbits already and figure one more cage to clean won't make much difference. Is there any health problems I should look for when checking one out? About how much per month is spent on supplies? I found a little girl less than a year old already tame and haven't found a reason not to get her yet. I have found a local vet for her if she needs one. She comes with a cage but might need a bigger one because she won't get out for more than about an hour a day.

Thanks for the sites they are a great help. I didn't think they lived so long with proper care. Looks like a long long term commitment if I do get her.

They are great if you have the time and dedication to them. My brother owns one and I love visting him when I am in town. The dustbaths they take are so fun to watch. Enjoy yours if you decide to get one.

I decided against one because I have a quaker that makes a lot of noise during the day, and the chinchilla is nocturnal. Also I have house rabbits. They don't recommend rabbits with chinchillas because there is a disease that rabbits can pass to a chinchilla that is fatal. So that ruled that out.
