Hey everyone. I have 3 cherry barbs and they usually have been keeping to themselves for the most part, but recently they've been swimming around each other more oftern. When they come together they flair out their fins and one will start chasing another. Now, the only two reason that I can think of is that 1) they're fighting or 2) mating. Anyone know which it might be and what I should do? Thanks a lot!

What tank size do you have? It mite be that one of the rosy barbs are going into the other rosy barbs places.

My tank is 28 US gal, so there's plenty of room for them. I have large plants on both ends of the tank with short, grass like stuff in the back middle and a piece of wood in there. One stays in the wood with the other two each have a side of the tank. Usually, when they extend their fins it's when they come together in the middle of the tank.

I figured that fighting was most likely they case. Why? Well, I'd like to know, too. That's why I post on here. haha.

AHHH.. This might be it. How many males and females to you have?

I'm not really sure... I think I might have 2 females and 1 male, OR it's all females. It's kind of hard to tell. I haven't seen any get bright/darker red and I know males do that when they want to mate...

Well we won't know if the are fighting unless we know what the gender is. Try researching.

Ok, I think I'm going to have to say that I'm extremely confident, judging from what I've read, that I have 3 females!
