I just got a 2kg fire extinguisher from eBay for £21.45 including postage, the 5kg would work out even cheaper in the long run. This is probably the cheapest place I've found. Will be trying it on my German reg, so will be sure to let people know if it works out OK, there should be no reason why it wouldn't work.

Just letting people know :)

Superb, yes please keep us posted. I have the German Reg and it's hard getting the refills in my area. I ended up ordering another refillable 2000g bottle from the same German company over a week ago and still waiting :(

At 22quid this FE works out loads cheaper than getting 500g cylinders refilled, just throw the FE away when finished.

I actually phone Chubb yesterday and they said you cant actually refill a CO2 FE you have to get them reconditioned or something like that (cant remember) so no probs throwing it away. Well taking it to the tip for recycling anyway ;)

Mmmm  I had my fire extinguisher refilled at a fire extinguisher specialist in Brum. They had no issues dealing with it because the date stamp into the cylinder was within 10 years of the date it was being refilled (just! it was dated September 1997 and I had it refilled last month!).

Apparently all bottles are stamped with a date and they need to be tested and certified if they are over 10 years old before they can be refilled. A refill of a 2kg bottle cost me £2 (they sell reconditioned ones for £20).

The place refilling it told me that the newer bottles are better because the regulator can be attached easier and the horn and handle taken off, whereas the older ones are "drip-fed" (whatever that means!) so that the handle can't be taken off but instead needs to be secured open to release the CO2. He said newer ones are basically more like the normal pub CO2 cyclinders where the regulator can be attached to the top of the cylinder. That's how I understood it anyway (but I am a girl and not technically minded  )

PS my fire extinguisher was bought from that place (ulster_exile here btw).

You really are a bad influence mate, what with flogging me a solenoid and making me buy a 2kg fire ext... Just won one :p

So how would I go about attaching my JBL reg to the FE? I'm a bit confused about that.

Not sure if the JBL is the "Standard" size or sized for disposables. You can get a converter but I thought it was to convert a "standard" rugulator to take disposable bottles. I may be wrong...

Could someone recommend a Reg to go with one of these fire extinguishers?

I should be getting pressurised CO2 soon hopefully, so this is a ver useful thread. :)

I've just been thinking about all of this, and I've realised, all I actually need to do is buy a regulator/needle valve and I have pressurised CO2!

I have a 2kg fire extinguisher on the way (won today), I have 2x ceramic diffusers (one spare for cleaning rotation) and a glass bubble counter and check valve, solenoid (prod prod sam :p - Still selling?). I have a load of CO2 tubing too.

Crikey, that sneaked up on me!

Good good ;)

You just have to unscrew the horn and screw on the reg its very easy, then its a case of open the cylinder by setting it off i.e. firing it using the handle, then find someway of keeping the handles closed, I'm going to use gaffa tape, should be simple.

Zig did an excellent tread on it

This reg is excellent and should fit (I've got one so should confirm for certain once I get the cylinder tomorrow)

That was the idea :) pressurised can be expensive, the of the shelf kits are pricey and that puts some people off, but doing it this way is easier than most think and saves you loads of money :)

Cool :) its not difficult to DIY a pressurised kit at all, you dont need that much stuff by any means. I've got enough spares to put together a third kit if I wanted to, but then again I do like buying things!
