Not a bad idea, German made lights would be pricey I bet though.....

'Tis German, I cannot speak a word either, Vorsprung dutch Technik is about all i know, i cheated with an online translator ;)

So far so good!

Are you gonna cycle the tank or use ammonia vaporizer every week?

What's an ammonia vaporizer?

The exact same question i was going to ask as well, have no idea what a ammonia vaporiser is.

Anyway, I will be doing a Fishless Cycle from scratch using ammonia as per the Forum's Fishless Cycle Article -

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/421488-cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first/

I know i can use mature media from my other tank and cycle very quickly, but I want a little more time to decide what to do with this tank and therefore more time for planning

It is not exactly amonia vaporizer but it is a bottle that contains nitrifying bacteria (that eats amonia and nitrites)  this allows instant addition of fish (even fish like puffers that have no scales and no gill covers) and makes the cycle go faster (it takes 18 days with the "amonia vaporized" tank
take a look at this:

@ Goggy:
I thought you must have found a new product! lol
Most people on here recommend the fishless cycle as it is less stressful to fish. There are only a couple of bottled bacteria products that actually work but you still can't add fish immediately. The bacteria have to be revived and nurtured for some time with the addition of bottled ammonia sometimes for a couple of weeks until they develop enough to support the removal of fish waste in a decent amount of time (24 hrs).
The ones I'm thinking of are Dr Tim's One and Only and Tetra Safe Start. Most of the others unfortunately don't have consistent results and therefore would be a waste of time and money.

i am cycling my tank now with my api quickstart it has been working for my other tanks so i think this one is legit
did you see the link?

Thanks Goggy - yes I did go to the link before - that's why I made my comment.

Have to say, in my opinion, API Quick Start is not a miracle instant tank and filter cycling product.

Although it does claim "contains live, nitrifying bacteria", the number of times I have heard these actually working is very few and far between, not a consistent product.

I agree with mamashack that Dr Tim's One and Only Nitrifying Bacteria or Tetra Safe Start, in that order, would be my choice of a quicker start to a Fishless cycling process provided instructions are followed correctly and the bottle is in date and was transported and stored correctly by LFS.

But in my case, I shall not be using any of these products nor any media or substrate from my other cycled tank/filter to start the process of my Fishless cycle, will be starting from scratch and any bacteria i get to start with will be probably be from live plants i'll be putting in the tank.

Yep, if all goes to plan the cycle will be complete from 4 to 8 weeks from when i start the cycle, probably this weekend, patience is a virtue ;)

A little update, have not yet started th elfishness cycle as waiting for mate to sort cabinet before  filling it with water and substrate.

But, i have decided on what kind of biotope i'd like to do.

Celestial Pearl Danio Biotope
smile.png

CPD's, habitat from Myanmar/Burma, and generally found in flooded grasslands / wetlands.

So therefore this set up will be densely planted with Elodea and perhaps Blyxa japonica, though have heard this can be hard to grow. Also considering some hair grass such as Elocharis acicularis, to start with.

Will need to do a little more research in to this, any suggestions would be welcome, but bear in mind prefer plants to be from the same general area of Myanmar / Burma.

And for tank mates for the CPD's, going to try and get some Rosy Loaches and Red Dwarf Rasboras

http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/yunnanilus-sp-rosy/
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/microrasbora-rubescens/

Suggestions or ideas more than welcome

Just need to decide on what substrate to get, thinking maybe simple children's playsand would be best.

Then will get some T5 over tank light unit, thinking 2 x 39w would be enough, for low/med tech set up with co2 and ei ferts.

So thats the plan for now
