I generally find with LFS websites that if its primary business is equipment, its website will be fantastic as it tries to tap into the internet money stream. The LFS that provides live stock tend not to have a good website as they are traditionally local business based owners from pre-interwebbing and don't seem to appreciate the twenty somethings that love to browse online then come in, do business and leave with maximum efficiency. Funny thing is, I would pay a up to a few pounds more (including postage costs) for equipment from a lfs IF I knew it was instock, available now for said price.
Both of my lfs have extremely poor websites and so I frequently purchase hardware goods in advance from internet friendly stores instead. This stops me from entering the shop, seeing some beautiful livestock and informing my friends of it. On my benefit side, I have saved money and not wasted my precious time with a pointless visit to the store.
Edit: forgot to mention, both stores use computer based tills, these can easily be connected to an internet store to maintain stock availability.
