Upgrading my tank next week from a Rio 300 to Rio 400 and looking for a centre piece Central that has some colour and personality. The stock I have at the minute are all between 1 and 4inch and consist of 2 Ebjds,Female Cuban and a pair of jade eyes but these will be going this week and a odd one that is a short bodied green Texas (hybrid) that I took in for a friend. I was thinking something along the lines of a Female Synspilum or chocolate, any suggestions?

Most of the Viejia such as the synspilum you mentioned should work. Wills is pretty good in regards to CA cichlids so i'd wait for his input.
Any pics of the tank?

Sorry cant quite make it out from the list if you are ending up with an empty tank or not? Is it just the Cutteri that are going?

My favorite Veijas are probably Black Belts and Regani though Bredohori (spelling) is very nice as well :)

Wills

Cutteri? I thought jade eye was the common name for a Sajica?
Either way, yes I think he was implying that just the cutteri/Sajica were going

Just the Spilurus are going. All the rest is moving to the 400. I want a large round and thick bodied fish but one that will be the king of the tank and not be all out nasty. I thought of synspilum because they tend to be the least aggressive vieja, female pearsei and bacourti have crossed my mind too.

A Green Terror may work. Not too aggressive from my experience, not any more than an Oscar anyway.

I was thinking a beautiful Flower Horn could work too. Aggressive but with space, it will just be a King with a fight here and there.

As long as there is enough room, then they won't be too aggressive.

400 Litres though, I am not sure if that will be over stocked.

Edit: Just saw you wanted Central. Still leaving it there just incase LOL

Not really interested in a gt and definately now a FH. I would like to keep a FH someday as a sole wet pet though.

As said I'm looking for something about 8-12 inches with some colour and must have personality. It cannot be overly aggressive.

P.s. Wills I know of a Regani for sale locally and only 2inch.

Going to go upto ferrybridge and a few others this Saturday to see what is on offer.

Well went to ferrybridge then to viscum and then to Leeds south Maidenhead and ended up coming home and buying a fish from a Lfs. Ferrybridge was a lot better than the last time I went. No disease and a goof variety. I was tempted by a few fish there.

Chocolate cichlids are stunning, mine is very docile but now lives with an oscar, but when it was in with urau it was a monster. You can never tell the personality of a fish.

Yeah they are spectacular. I ended up going to around 10 fish stores withing 60 miles and found some great fish but I ended up with the Regani. It's only around an inch and a half and getting along well. The only problem I have now is that my Cuban is trying to initiate breeding with my ebjd!

hhmmm that would make interesting fry lol
