Hopefully i will be able to start building my new pond system in the garden of my new house within the next couple of months after i get some tree surgeons in and i was talking to some fellow fish friends the other day who mentioned of a cat notorious for eating koi and goldfish out of peoples ponds local in my area...
I don't want to cover the whole pond system up in netting as i think it will make it look butt ugly and it will be unpracticle as far as pond maintanence goes as i have a feeling i will be netting out lots of leaves in the pond system come winter as there is a huge beach tree at the bottom of the garden etc.
I heard of a device that has alarm and when triggered it will let out a loud noise far beyond our hearing but that of a noise that cats can hear and hate, does anyone know anything more on this device and how much it costs roughly or anywhere i can get it or companys that make it etc? Anyone else have any other tricks for keeping the cats at bay?
Thanks for your time :)

Take a look at the post further down called 'damn cat has mauled and killed my fish' it has some good ideas for cat proofing.

Hope this helps
Emma

if you have trees in the garden as do i netting is a god send depending on the type of tree ,i have sycamores overhanging the pond ,it flowers then drops the blooms late may to early june then the leaves are falling as we speak, the fact that you may add a stream makes it useless though as the leaves willt travel down with the water, sonic devices work for cats i used to keep birds and had 2 set up in a crossfire ,you can get sprinklers that work from a sensor ,but if you make it difficult for the cat to get to the pond edges itl help protect the fish

or as stated in another post a rottweiler will do the job
