I need to move all the fish in my 180L to different tanks. So far fish are winning. As I'm gonna be emptying all the water out anyway, is it okay to empty 2/3 out and them try and catch them? Or would this stress them too much?

(Y'all don't wanna know how stressed I am!!  )

Sarah

PS I'm already trying the 2 nets thing, they're still laffing in my face

I hate having to catch the fish. I have so many plants its hard and plus the caves.

Remove all decor.

Lower water so there is just enough room to swim.

Buy a big net.

Herd them to the corners.

~Those are my tips. Ever try catching a Silver Dollar :-(

That sounds good to me as well , lower water wouldn't stress the out as much as chasing them with a net IMO . I sometimes use 1 net for catching and another for herding .

GOOD LUCK.

You know what does stress them out though? When I get really frustrated, and go Neanderthal...catching fish with your hands and your mouth is quite the challenging activity...

yep at work on difficult fish i use 1 smaller net for herding then a bigger net to catch them.

when doing it at home though, emtpy everything out. if you don't your only going to end up having to re arange everything anyways.

MY GOSH! TELL ME ABOUT IT! I wanted to move my lonely silver dollar into the 20G, forget it, hes paper thin and fast as lightnigh, sorta dumb though

I had to get my boyfriend to help me catch a fish tonight. I had one net and he had the other. I made a swift move and almost got the fish but it scooted off and swam straight into his net ;) job's a good 'un

- 2 nets
- remove all decor
- lower the water as much as is feasible without suffocating the fihs, obviously ;)
- have a clean plastic box to slide them into so you can carry them in it to the other tank.

The hardest thing I had to catch was a 5 inch common plec. He was really fast. The tetras were easier to catch than him.
I had a hell of a time catching a snail once...

I find Commons to be a decievingly fast fish, whenever they bolt to the top, all you see is a flash.

thanks for the advice, removed everything, lowered water to about an inch, made dams and canals in the substrate, got 'em all in one corner.....still took me about 2 hours..... blinking little 1/2 inch shrimps are the worst, they scurry like lightening then launch themselves out the net like demented kangaroos. One bounced off the light fitting, ricocheted off my glasses and ended up back in the water.... one LUCKY shrimp. Cleaned out the 3 to 4" of substrate , half filled, emptied, filled, emptied, filled, emptied, now clean, full and waiting for cichlids tomorrow.

I am NEVER, EVER gonna strip a tank down to bare glass again. Just thank god for the python.

Going to bed.... 'nite all!!
