case of the missing ventrals

All I do know is this. When I put the dwarf corys in thre fry tank, I had larger survival rates in the spawn tank, and less missing ventrals on 2 consecutive spawns. I was given the challenge to try it before disbelieving it. I accepted the challenge, and was pleased with the outcome. If you never try it, you will not be able to truly say it does not work. If you choose to not believe it before trying it, then I hope you will find another way to help the problem, because there doesn't seem to be any better answer to this point.

Corys or salt. Use one or the other please. :D

inchworm: no the fry from my first spawn are *not* the same parents, which lead me to believe that its more genetics than anything.

Hi CC,

It does look like a genetic thing then. :X

i really sounds like the problem could be either or, i can c how the missing ventrals can be genetic. and i can c how it could be bacteria. i know cc keeps her tanks very clean so im not sure bacteria is the problem -_- i raise guppys ( totally differant then bettas ) but i had them in a bare bottom tank and i know, its hard to get clean, iv lost guppys to this and my only solution was to put down gravel.

cutecotton...I read this post of yours when you first posted it and I thought how weird a betta must look without it's ventral fins....well 5 mins ago I was looking at my 4 male bettas and noticed 1 of them doesn't have ventral fins either!! Nothing at all is there...

I wonder why I never noticed before?? it's so obvious now when I look and compare him to the other 3.

It's kinda cool actually!!

I guess it's just something that happens occasionally.

Just wanted to let you know
