Cant Keep Snails Alive!

i think i know what the problem is!!! alright i use these ph tablets to maintain the ph for my tank becuase our well water has terrible ph, it fizz like alkie seltzier when put in water, could this be the problem??? also i think its the chemicals because from my knowlage the cories didn't attack my other snails...but it could be and i don't want to give the cories up, i only have 1 tank so i have to put the snail with cories.... until Christmas

what do you mean exactly by "terrible pH"? if its between 6 and 8, most fish will readily adapt to it. i'd definitely quit mucking around with it if the natural pH is lower than 7--tetras and cories are from the Amazon, which is typically a little bit acidic.

well ia hvnt used the tablets in at least 2 weeks becuase the fish are doing fine, i will wait another 2 weeks until i try another snail. if there is anything else you can tell me thatd be great!

You say the snail had it's cover closed, makes it sound like an apple snail to me rather than a ramshorn.

Apple snails sometimes close up for a bit, mine stayed shut for 3 days once, next day he was open and munching away on a courgette. Be sure you aren't throwing out live snails.

As others have said the cory's will not kill the snail, so dont worry about them.

Also stop putting chemicals in your tank, (other than dechlorinator and medications when required) you shouldn't need to be adding stuff to your water.

I just got an apple snail and I was worried when I saw him closed up on the bottom of his jar (he is currently in quarantine before he goes in with one of my bettas). I did a little research and I guess they are a lot less active in the winter (makes sense) so maybe that is all your snail is reacting to and not really dead afterall.

I agree with Arfie, if it is a ramshorn it will not have a cover to close up like an apple snail.
If you want to stop buying snails, I could send you a package full of Ramshorns and Malaysian Trumpets for the cost of shipping. We have lots and lots and lots. PM me if you're interested incase I don't check this thread again.

hmm well then my LPS is stupid, also i no its dead, when you can smell a decaying snail its dead thanks for your help i might do the shipping thing how muc hwill it be ill PM you about it
