Anyone know of a cannister filter that is cheap but doesn't come with a pump?

I have a 600+ gph hobby pump and want to have the simplicity of a cannister filter.

look for pond pressure filters that need a seperate pump to run them.
something like an Oasis Pressure-Tec or similar

You can get pond filters from my local hardware store that need to be powered by a pump and are effectively just a sealed drum full of media.

i suppose you could remove the impeller from a cheaper canister filter makeing youre pump responsible for the water flow

I have a broken H.O.T. magnum - bad motor. Too pricey in my book to fix it. I think I'll just hook my pump up to it. Anything to be concerned about? Pressure, etc...?

i take it thats the hang on version that pumps 250 gal an hour?
so you would be looking to increase this by 350 an hour
as long as your connections are solid and able to cope with the increased flow rate i dont see why not
i would try a trial run to see
not sure on the possabilty of back pressure to the motor there is a faq somewere on how to calculate your flow rate either on here or somewere else that should be of use
just hook it all up to see if 600 can be initialy maintained that should show up any pressure problems to the motor
dont forget youre filter motor gets put under pressure when youre media becomes dirty and restricts flow

It handled the pressure with an extra O ring. I'm going to install a bypass to allow me to regulate the flow to the cannister - it's pushing through too fast....bio wheels are spinning way too fast, even after adjustment.

Thanks!
