I've read some replies on this board saying that glass fish sometimes have colours on their sides, well i went to a new fish shop today and saw some glas fish with bright green and pink (almost neon like) colours down their backs, i was pretty sure that they were dyed so i didn't bother trying them.

Glass catfish? Glass catfish should be no other color except clear/translucent and a little bit of black. Anything else is most likely dyed.

It is nowhere near neon or flourescent. Sometimes at a certain angle though, you can see some beautiful hints of colour along them, and it ripples as they undulate in the water.

It isn't obvious straight away though - neon pinks and greens are DEFINATELY dyed.

I was lured into the bright colors of the glass fish - they are painted glass tetras - they were beautiful in colors - neon greens, pinks, blues, yellows, orange. Only after I bought them I found out the were dyed :grr: Yes the colors are straight along the back of the fish as well as some under the fish - you made a fine choice not to get them!

Oh the painted glass tetras, yes. We sell them at the LPS I work at. They don't get sold very often. I've only sold one pink one to some lady. :/
