i put some in last night and it seems like my bala shark grew over night.
he's also eating the wood like crazy.

am i insane or could something like that happen?

Iam sorry, what did you put in?

But no basically, you can do daily waterchanges of 20% this might help a little, but as to foods and things, other than over feeding, no just carry on as normal, provide a nice big tank and a good healty diet, you will see results much better

Only need to add clean water and good food to make them grow.. but that won't work if the tank is not big enough!

As above. Tank size aside (you should always afford a tank to a species to allow the fish in question to reach it's maximum potential). I have always advocated large water-changes. Show men will tell you the same. They would change their water in their show specimen tanks 2 or three times a week. (with the same chemical make-up) This is not much use unless you have a well balanced feeding regime and there are no better foods than feeding live fodder. (but varied) This is exactly how we, as breeders, can get fry to grow and mature as fast as we can, Water-changes & Diet are very important.

I was very tempted to reply and say food lol.

As everyone else has said clean water, food and adequate size. I swear 2 of my baby apple snails doubled in size overnight lol.

i am the same did i miss
something ??

No, bala sharks don't eat wood :)

>_<
yes i meant wood.

sorry about that, between lack of sleep and being in the wrong state of mind can really mess with someone haha.

so wood wouldn't make something grow faster?
it changes the pH, so maybe that's what did it?

it's just my bala didn't grow at all and then i added wood and suddenly he seems bigger.
i need to get him some friends and soon too.
i feel bad watching him try to school with his reflection.

 did it grow the same time you added the wood?
Maybe because you added the wood, the tank now has something new, leading to appear like the bala grew, but they do like sucking and working there way through the substrate, my four had those noses down constantly, like you say they would work one end to the other of my old exstremely large oak branch i used to have in tank, what size tank do you have, as bala's grow big, trust me, i felt awful keeping mine in my 5/2/2ft
