Does anybody knows what symptomes humans have when they catch fish tuberculosis? 2 out of my 3 silver dollars died - the third one seems much better - also eats a little too. But he still has twiches and I am worried.... One of the 3 silver dollars had this massive bruise on the body before he died and I don't know - could it be from jumping out or hitting his head on the roof? Or is it more serious? TB? One of my punteus titteyas for a change now has bent spine towards the end and is hanging there really - with his head down.
The rest of them are not doing that great either, first 5 of 8 punteus were breathing at the surface. They are not eating and hanging there really - sometimes they chase each other. The rest - 10 harlequins and 2 botias m. are hopefully ok - I don't know. Does anybody know how long is the process - let say it is fish TB - before all the fish is wiped out (including me)? I didn't use any precautions - never heard of it before. I did have cut when putting my arms in the watter and handling dead silver dollars. This cut is not bad, but takes long time to desappear (small cut really) - more then one week and it is still not healed - although it doesn't look bad.
Another thing - when I pour watter back in the aquarium - small dropplets do hit my face.... not good if it was TB. What is your opinion? lucc

I doubt it very much that TB is in your tank, but i'd maybe do some research into symptons etc...

fish tb shows curved spines on fish, and sores/legions on the skin.

If you had TB, you'd know about it.

Fish TB is extremely rare and your fish probably do not have it. Yes you can "get it" if you have any open cuts, but that is even less likely and it is not the same as human TB so the signs are very different.. for example, if you have a cut on your hand near a joint, the joint is likely to become stiff or achy.

So, why don't you post a full list of readings and a full set-up description so we can try to figure out what's wrong with the tank?

Hi Kitty Kat and all of you guys trying to help me. The punteus titteya are most of them at the top trying to get the air and one of them died already and not long after floated up ofcourse I took him out... But it had slightly bigger belly maybe then before (it is a female) - the males gasping for air don´t have big belly. The other female does have belly too and the third female a little less - but they were more or less like this before the whole problem started (always). Only one of the punteus t. males have slightly bent spine towards the end - nobody else does or did. The harlequins are looking paler and are very low (the opposite thing really to punteus t.) but they do eat so far. My last silver dollar is eating every day (twice a day) but doesn´t have his usual appetite back but considering he is alone now (after all that time when he had 2 other friends...)and I can expect some difference in his eating maybe (also: just about 5 days ago he almost died). The botias m. are eating - the colour looks ok and are lively.
I don´t have the test kit it costs 120 eur here (my new 100 l tank cost was 118 euro - compare that - it does´t seem to be logical). The ph when I checked looked to be 7,5 but to be honest the colour shade in my view is very close to the one wich reads 7 - I wasn´t really sure if it was 7,5 (but lets say it was).
2 days ago I changed water again about 70% and it didn´t seem to make any difference for my punteus t. - it didn´t make them better at all ..... What do you think? lucc

Thanks again you do make me feel better about the TB. Could I get other deseases through the cut or pouring watter back in and that slightly splashing my face for example? lucc

As far as i know Tuberculosis is Zoonotic but i'm not sure if its Anthroponotic. :good:

From what I understand, "fish TB" is caused by Mycobacterium marinum (which is zoonotic) while "human TB" is predominately by M. tuberculosis.

Whoa! Where are you? Maybe I could send you one.. they're only €20-30 here.

Ok, can you get a shop to test your water for you? Wanted readings are ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

What is the size of the tank? What is the water temperature? What are you feeding them?

Hi Kitty Kat,
I will ask if they can test the water meanwhile will try to find cheaper test kit.
The size of the tank is 100 l (80 cm long). I use flakes (good quality ones) littlebit of tablet I have for botias and lettuce. Thank you very much for helping out. The latest is that my puntius titteyas (small barbs) are sick none of them eat for days and the females have that desease - bloated body, blood spots on the skin and popping eyes, one died already we managed to put 2 in different tank and 5 are still in tank with the other fish, nightmare:-(. lucc

Can My Fish Have TB And I Cought It?

hi, i have been wondering this myself recently. a few months ago, i got a couple of cuts on my finger, and they have gone lumpy, and only now are starting to heal:

also, i cut my other finger about a week ago. it was only a tiny cut, but the skin around it has started to dye off (although it seems to be stopping now):

i have been using savlon a couple of times per day, but this one is a lot worse than the previous 2.

i think i should go to the doctors!

BTW, sorry for the blurry pics, it's hard trying to focus and take a pic with an SLR one handed

Because fish tanks are full of bacteria you have to be quite careful with cuts etc. One of our neighbours got quite sick after he cut himself cleaning the fishtank, it took some time for him to get rid of whatever it was he caught (sorry, can't remember exactly what it is).

Anything that doesn't heal or gets worse go see a doctor.

Pest control.. yummy finger

Haha.. Well I guess either my immune system is better or I have a cleaner tank because I usually have some form of wound on my hands (autistic trait, don't ask) and am constantly dipping them in my tank (so glad that it's less salty now)

week ago.. i drunk some fish tank water by accident and had bad saw throat same night then dry cough followed by bad cold whole week...

TB dos have cure.

pest contorl.. that look bad.. clean it with 100% alcohol and cover it with vasaline untill it heal..

and yes u can sue me if your finger drops off.

pest control, always best to see a doctor if anything is unusual like that.
