hey...i noticed that my smaller 24inch tank takes on a lot of algae on the glass which i have to clean off at least three times or twice a week...Can an apple snail be put into the tank for algae eating as well as turning over some gravel? It currently has a pair of breeding kribs as its inhabitants and just wondered if the snail tries to get into the coconut cave (which visibly has about 50 eggs in it); can the parents fend off the snai in order to save them?? How will they do at night though?
P.S. will a small algae eater do like a pair of ottocinclus or a single bristlenose (currently 2-3cm)?

I would go with the corys and never trust a snail because it cant feel that it is getting beat up because of its hard shell. Try a small cory and add some more java moss.

the guy clearly says that he wants something to clear ALGAE if a snail isnt good then what is

you say corys erm corys dont eat algea at all. the are scavengers. and eat stuff from the substrate.

Vid vid i would get 2 otos as they stay small unlike bns (gets to 6") and also they would get scared more easily and wont bother your kribs.

About a year ago I had 6 panada corries and they ate the algea of the tank, I saw them do it. And yes I was feeding them properly.

i think i can smell Bs because Corys DONT EAT algae they could have picked a few bits of hair algae often because of starved. i hae had corys for years and never eaten algae the algae went down after i put in two Bn plecs.

Also you dont even know there names

Panadas corries there Panda Corys i have 4 of them.

I tend to agree corys will eat abit of algae now and then, but not all the time.

I had alot of long brown algea( I think that it was hair algea) and they just sat there and ate and I didnt have a problem with algea after I got them but about 2 weeks later all my fish died after a nitrite spike :rip: . I am not lying, and just because I spelled it corries, and not corys dosent mean I am lying. Also, I know someone who always spells kribensis with a c and I have seen his kribensis, does that mean he was lying? I really think that you should think about what you are going to say before you accuse me of things when you have no proof that I didnt have 6 corys.

LOL, you're harsh DiscusAngel, got me larfing but it was a harsh response mate!

Okay as for Corydoras eating algae, i see it as a bit of a pointless argument, i have always had corydoras in atleast one of my tanks and i although i havent seen Cory sitting there consuming vast amounts of algae, they have a nibble it would appear, but then again it must just be them rumaging. I say pointless as to "do they or dont they" as i am sure some will sometimes eat very small amounts of algae like most other fish, my Convicts are forever eating algae of the bog wood in my cichlid set up!!! Or trying to eat it LOL

But as for Corydoras being fish in your tank for the sole purpose of reducing algae then it obviously aint gonna happen, (not that anyones is saying that i dont think?)

All I know is that they VISIBLY ate algea in front of me, it might no of happend to everyone else, but it has happend to me.

ok, sorry for being a little harsh but corys arent a proper algae eater like a Oto etc.when scavenging they may eat some algae on the way past etc but from the way you said it they must eat algae 24/7 and make you tank clean. now i understand that thts not what you ment i appologize. so Sorry for being harsh :). o and i wasnt saying you a lier because you didnt spell them right. i just said at the bottom "Panadas corries there Panda corys" just to let you know. incase you lfs labelled them wrong etc.
