K, I bought a fish for real cheap who had very badly torn fins. His gorgeous pale colors, and white blanket like coating around his eyes (not over them, around), made me fall for him. I've known what makes an opaque was it's solid fin color and strong white scales in the body, not just being pale. But the thing is.. this little guy (is a lot better now and has been living in my breeding tank (ten gallon) and has been making nests and growing his fins back rather rapidly). So now, he's got his color back. His fins are solid white, not clear, and there are no other colors tarnishing the pure white.. which is gorgeous... but his body has a tint of pink. He's a strong white color. I know he's not an opaque because his beard is a bit clear rather than just white. Sooo.. does this make him a cambodian?

I'd take a picture, bit i'm TERRIBLE at taking pictures of fish.

Cambodians are white or flesh colored bodies with differently colored fins, such as red or blue. So no, your male is not a cambodian. Just because his beard is clear doesn't mean he isn't opaque either, he sounds like he actually is to me. Sounds just beautiful.

k, so even though his body has a tiny bit of pink/flesh color around the edges, he still falls under the category of opaque?

opaque is just that, opaque.
the betta will have a matte finish (not be shiny) and you wont be able to see through the fins

opaque bettas have what looks like a chalky layer of skin all over their bodies (its easier to see up close)

do you have a pic?

It is an opaque. Working the chalky white body is what makes a good opaque or not. Sometimes you have to go back to a fish with irridescent color to get the white to go chalky. E.G. breed steel to opaque. You really need to know what the opaque line comes from, to know what to breed it back to. Some opaques have derived from turqoise, and even Mustard gas.
