Calling Artists And Anyone Brave Enough!

to be honest, i think youd be best off asking a tattooist. its their job, its what they do. and they will know what you can and cant do with a tattoo, its not as simple as drawing on skin. your skin reacts differently to paper, and ink reacts differently to pencil. with such a small tattoo, detail will be limited and the tatooists main concern will be creating something you want that small, but that is easily definable. also dont get it ASAP, not unless you're 50000000% sure its what you want. took me about 4 years to decide on my first one, and even then it was a natural occurence, rather than me sitting their trying to force an idea out.

also, you give your tattooist your basic idea, and if hes worth his money he'll come up with a few ideas that havnt even crossed your mind.

Couldn't agree more. I spent months trying to design my own, and it was only when I went to meet the tattooist that I knew it wouldn't work. Now I couldn't be any happier with what I've got - find one you can trust and they can come up with some great designs.
As with moochy I spent years thinking I knew what I wanted and that I wanted one. But what I have now is so radically different and about countless times better than I could have imagined.
Speak to a tattooist and they can point you in the right direction...

I've been thinking about this tattoo for the last... hmmmm... 5 years, more seriously in the last 3 and brave enough to actually consider in in the last 8 months... now i know i want it, the design is the next stage.

Believe me im scared silly enough by even the idea of causing myself pain :p I am not rushing into this! I never said i intended to go out and get the tattoo tomorrow or next week or month...

I'd rather desing this myself but i just cant do it, im not very good at putting my thoughts into ideas and i dont want to ask some tattoo artist to design something without at very least having something to show them to give them an idea...

I dont want any of these airy fairy poncy angels, a black shadow of a winged figure kind of thing... i just cant explain.

EDIT: And yes I could go to a tattoo place and get them to sketch it up for me, or look on specific forums...

But I feel oddly at home here, saying things I wouldnt be able to elsewhere...

And I happen to know there are some awesome artists hiding on this forum, even those people who dont yet know it!

I love this forum and it may 'only be a fish forum' but it helps me a lot, its a wonderful community and it has helped me far more than anyone or anything else! You are all amazing people and I am so thankfull to be part of this forum!

I have tattoos and one of them was drawn up specifically for me by a tattoo artist, it shows the four horsemen of the apocalypse but on motorcycles crossed with horses. It was based on a 14 century woodcut that the tattooist looked up in the library and altered to be suitable for tattooing. So you see some tattooists are really artists dedicated to what they do and my advice is to try and find one of those.

Yeah... I really want something more personal than a 'complete' stranger designing it for me and I also dont want to have to pay some complete stranger to design it for me. Because its such a personal tattoo, i want to be able to design it/know who designed it etc and I want it to be someone from this forum. Who knows, might be a fish tattoo next if it goes well because i hear its addictive :p

Same as if it does, i want my 'Faery of Dark Despair' tattoo, id also love a Pink Floyd related one, something to do with the lyrics 'shine on you crazy diamond'.

Muwahah so many ideas..

Anyways...

Been googling images and ironically... there was an image when i googled 'angel holding awareness ribbon' LOL. Its just a random basic image but the idea is close to what i was thinking, an angel holding the awareness ribbon.

These are the kind of shaped angel wings I like, though I dont want them so complicated....

And I like the simplicity, the dark outlines, it could be added to with more shading etc too, i'd change the shape of the wings to make it look more feminine, long hair, female angel lol etc and of course the awareness ribbon.

I dont mind having a tattoo to add to later on, though id worry that if it does hurt too much id not be able to go back a second time lol.

Tattoo's hurt. They hurt on and on and on. The first time the needle goes in it hurts and it doesn't change until it's done unless he hits a bone then it hurts more. The thing is about tattoo's though is that it hurts good. Having a tattoo is like bashing your head against a brick wall -- it's fantastic when it stops! It's like sunburn or gravel-rash but we are not talking toothache pain here. Yes, it hurts but it's bearable and if you've chosen the right design, something you can live with for the rest of your life, then you've done the right thing.

If you are worried about the pain then any good artist, if you ask them, will hit you with a needle but only distilled water, that way you can feel what it's like but without any marking. Really though, just do it -- once you have decided on your tattooist -- but do it forever, put yourself fifty years on, do you still like the tattoo?

It's a big step and not one to be taken lightly, laser removal is far more painful than the tattoo and not particularly pretty either so make sure you know what you want and that you will want it until your flesh finally rots away from your cold, dead bones.

PS Sorry to go on but I've seen too many people have tattoo's done on a whim then spend the rest of their lives hiding them. Be sure and you will be OK.

I know where I want to get it done I think :) have seen a friend get tattoed nearly head to to lol, he has amazing and very precise work and I know the guy is well known :)

That said...

Im used to pain in my life, goodness knows i've caused half of it to myself. I will deal with that bit, though doing an ink free jab is a good idea!

And believe me, this tattoo is purely for me and even on my arm, is unlikely to ever be seen by anyone. I never wear anything less than a very long sleeved polo shirt at work, a long sleeved t shirt underneath if i can get away with it.

I dont and never intend to have a relationship where anyone needs to see anything else. So tattoo is purely for me and maybe my close friends i wish to show and for a photo to show you guys lol

sun rays

I was thinking something like the above as well. I know its not what you're looking for, but you see how the rays of sunshine outline the shoulder? You could do something like that as well behind/above.

Sorry friend, link just goes to google home page.

how much it hurts depends on where it is. the top of your arm is one of the hardiest bits of skin, so probably the least painful. the inside of your upper arm, where its more tender and less exposed, hurts a lot more. also tattoos close to the bone, like shins, chest that hurts. its not that bad, but obviously people have different pain thresholds so will say different things. also depends on how good your tattooist is. you dont feel the needle going in and out of your skin, its too quick. just feels like its being scraped across your skin.

Funny as my first few ideas on paper have an angel holding the ribbon.

I like the sun rays, not really what Im after at the moment but thats what i mean when i said i can build on the original tattoo, for now i want the centerpiece tattoo and and shadows/clouds/sunrays etc can be thought about later if im brave enough :)

I actually have a very high threshold, what i cant tolerate is the thought of pain! Like injections, injections fascinate me, i can give injections to animals, i can even microchip farm livestock and if you saw one of those needles... any sane person would run screaming...

But before an injection i will have full on panic attacks with hyperventilating and the lot, being sick, unable to eat... shaking like a leaf and feeling faint...

Even though i know it doesnt bother me!?

Im gonig to be like that with tattoo knowing it involves needles lol

Lol just try n relax, after my first one the others just made me nod off lol, was like having someone stroke my arm lol I got all cosy and could have had a kip :)
