Calculating Filtration?

Hey guys. Id like to know how you work out filtration. for example, i have a spare 3g tank, and it needs a filter. say i want to filter the tank 5x per hour, how do i work out what power filter i need?

Times your Tank capacity by the amount of times u want to filter it per hour,
Tropical is at best IME at a minimum of 3 times.


So you would need a filter that kicks out 15 gallon per hour... shouldnt be hard to find
 
fluval 1 internal filters are supposed to do 50gph, I dont quite believe that but that would more than do you for your tank.

So very simple then. To be honest, i dont know what the heck i didnt figure that out myself :blush:

And cheers for the heads up on the fluval 1, but i think that may just be a bit too powerful, even turned right down. i shall do some hunting and see what i can find!

pfk magazine has calculators and converters on there site you can convert or calculate anything regards john
