Hello All,
I am wondering if anyone can advise me as I need a new filter for a large 48" long, 15" wide, 19" high freshwater tank for my Fontosa and couple of catfish. Have decided on a Fluval external but as the tank holds 224 litres or 49 uk galls. I am wondering if I got the new fluval 306 which is for upto 300 litres would this be too much? I do like this one but will it cause problems by being too powerful? Or if I went for the weaker 205 fluval, that caters for 200 litres so I seem to be caught betwix the two. Any advice would be welcome.
Cheers Heather

Frontosa's are very large fish that will have a big bioload so I would say that the 306 would be borderline. The 405/6 would be the better option. I would say that the tank should be at least 5ft aswell? Eventually anyway.

I use a 306 on a 160l, and tbh i wish i had gone for the 406 . I think you would be better off with the 406

never too much, buy the biggest you can afford :)

Definitely go for the biggest. I've got a 106 for my small tank, and it's brilliant. I wanted a 306 for my new tank which is the same size as this 260L but it came with the earlier 305 model which is good - not quite as quiet and doesn't move quite as much water but still good and easy to maintain. I might go for a bigger filter when money allows (406).

why only fluval though? a tetratec ex1200 would do nicely :p
