Bumblebee Goby

I was once told you can identify them by how many stripes they have?
No, number of stripes means nothing.

And with the fish fillet would defrosted, de-breaded fish fingers be OK? They are basically the same thing really…
No, fish fingers wouldn't be okay! All kinds of chemicals are used to make these things, and while they may be harmless to us, who knows what they'll do to your poor gobies! Visit your local fishmonger or grocery store, and buy a small fillet of pollack, tilapia, cod, haddock or plaice. If you ask nicely and explain what you want, they may cut you a small bit from the tail-end of the fish fillet that they can't normally sell anyway. Take it home, slice it up into strips, then wrap in aluminium foil and freeze. Whenever you feed your fish, break off a small sliver from one of the strips, and off you go! A fish fillet frozen this way should remain safe and useful for a month or so, but after that, do understand that the vitamin content will decay and it'll stop being nutritious. You may well notice your fish don't eat it once it gets old.

BBGs aren't especially fussy feeders, but they are slow feeders, which is why they often starve to death in aquaria.

Thank you for the reply. It was my mum who suggested the fish finger idea. I'm going out shopping soon so will pick some up then.

they are wonderful and interesting fish to keep
I had soem ocean rock with BBG;s I kept and it was interesting to see what hole they would pop out of it helped with the territorialness as well

I liked keeping them as a group

Glad to help.

As simonas says, these fish become especially fun in groups. If you add some caves for each one to defend, it's very amusing to watch them chase one another about. Although rearing the fry is quite tricky, getting them to spawn isn't, and that adds another level of entertainment to these colourful gobies. I liked keeping them in a "mock rock pool" filled with shells, rocks, and sand, together with shrimps and snails. An 8-10 gallon tank would be ample for that, and if you add some of those fake anemones and seaweeds, you've got a reef tank on a budget!

Keep your eyes peeled for rhino-horn gobies and desert gobies; though different species, they have similar requirements if kept in brackish water, and they could all be kept together, given sufficient space.

I'm hopefully going to be getting him a larger tank today. I might get him some friends when I find them.

Alessa!

Popping off to P@H to get a small 6-7 gallon tank for him in about 10 mins.

Alessa!

I went and got him a 6 gallon tank.

He looks like a stunning true BBG.

I bet you'll find him sitting on the sea anemone quite often, as they like to perch in odd places.

Remember to cyle the tank first. Also why do you only have 3 Emerald Eye Rasboras left?

The tank has a mature filter in it. I only have three left as one died in the bag due to stress because of all the bumps we had to go over in the car, the others looked a little shaken up too. Then one was still too weak and got stuck in the filter. The others recovered and were fine, I've put them in with the BBG because it's a smaller tank and they were hiding a lot in the other tank because there's only 3 of them. They were looking lost in the big tank, in the smaller tank they are out a lot more.

Alessa!

I have told my mum to plant the plant in the BBG tank and let it float then I'll sort it out when I get home.

No worries. this plant will be happy planted or floating. It changes it's shape to fit wherever it is. Great plant.

Nice! So it will probably be the shape of the surface by the time I get home. Then I will plant it and it will change it's shape again.

Alessa!

Bumble decided to take a closer look at the filter.... The inside of it. My mum had literally just fished him out when I got home. Plus 2 emerald eye rasboras.

Cheers,
Alessa!
