Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a supplier who can offer me general community fish in the hundreds at non-silly prices, problem i have is when i mention the quantitys i require they get a glazed look and start rubbing their hands excitedly  then quote me silly prices. I dont mind paying just not a fortune for bulk purchases, am willing to import if nec

Many thanks
Mick :D

You need to find a wholesalers but you will need to be a registered company before they will deal with you. I dont know of any up in your end of the country but a look through the yellow pages or a call to directory enquiries might throw some up.

To import them yourself requires a MAFF licence. These are not that difficult to obtain. Search the web for contact details, (MAFF Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food). I had a MAFF licence for the last 15 years I was in the UK.

That said, once you have an import licence, you will need to find an exporter who will sell to you in the small quantities you are talking about, (hundreds are small - with community trops, 500 of a single species to a box is quite common).

You then have the problem of payment. International payment which is secure is a minefield. You will often have to pay up front until you have a relationship with a shipper. Don't give them a credit card number!

For all but the commonest community trops, from the biggest exporters, expect the species that arrives to be different from that ordered. I recall one shipment of "mixed barbs" contained exclusively lungfish!

Unless you are considering importing as a business, CFC is right, set up a £100 company and go to a wholesaler.

Does anyone what is liscence you you need in the US and who to contact?

Okay thanks all will look into the "£100" company will keep you posted on the out come......i am awaiting a reply from a couple of companies who say they can help.....watch this space!

Again many thanks
Mick
