I have a few days of work so thought I would start the build of my Acrylic cylinder tank.

It is 5ft tall and 2ft in diameter with the base and lid

Actual tank is 3ft tall and 2ft in diameter and is roughly 240 Litres.

I plan to use a Oase Biomaster 600 filter.

I bought a 6500K 20w floodlight and a 20W blue floodlight and mounted it in a plastic tray thingy..

Both will be on timers with the blue coming on an hour before and of an hour after.

I do plan to build a new base and hood out of ply to house the filter and bits.

I also plan to mount a few fans in the hood.

At some point I might extend the inlet with a clear tube to maybe the middle of the tank.

what are you thinking for fish??? most will tell you the shape, while interesting, isn't that great for fish habitat... so it's harder to choose fish that are a good fit... do you know the water hardness in your area??? that could help you choose the right fish for your new tank...

I already have a tank with Neon tetras, Lampeys, Harlequin Rasboras, Corys, Armano shrimps and Cherry shrimps which is breeding like crazy and everything is going great in the last 6 months, So I am guessing I will stock with similar fish.

I have a 20w 6500K and a blue floodlight. Both housed in a container.

Very nice, I love Cherry Shrimps they are lots of fun. This will be a very cool place for them.

Is that the original water intake that comes with the Oase ? It looks like something too restrictive and could completely block if a plant leaf covers it, It's strange that a manufacturer would produce stuff like that.

Your idea of installing a tube to lower it, is nearly a must. I would even go much lower depending on the substrate, nearly just above the bottom. This would help a lot to lower mulm formation. And probably replace that intake for something Shrimp proof, that has a lot more surface and have water moving slower. You could even make one that pulls some water near the top, then in the middle and bottom to create good movement all the way down the tank.

Your light choice is a little peculiar while I never tried using these. Might be strong on the blue ? Have you tested it ? I would be curious to see the effect it does and how hot that would become. If it's too much blue you could light it for the mid day period and use the warmer light for the morning and afternoon.

Hi, Thanks for the reply and helpful info..

No its not the original intake from Oase. I am not 100% sure how I will do the intake but your idea going down to near the bottom is probably what I will do.

I always wanted to try floodights on a tank so I though this was my opportunity. Both the lights are 20w each. One blue for moonlight and the other 20w 6500K so ideal colour temp for daytime. The blue is very blue and bright but I like it, So will probably have it on for an hour before mainlight then of before mainlight then on hour as the last light.. I have tested both lights for a hour and does not get very hot. I will probably drill a few more holes in the container top. I do plan to make a new base and lid out of ply to house the bits and plan to put a few fans in the lid.
