Afternoon all:

Been out loitering at lfs and browsing youtube vids with cichlids. Notice a number if not all have bubblers. Any advantages to bubblers other than the atmosphere? Obviously they exhale oxygen but do they actually add oxygen into the H2O? Always counted on filter to handle that part of the system in my 40gal rainbow tank, this is 70gal tank. Bubblers help out a 70gal tank more?

Thanks

I believe they add oxygen in the sense that they create surface tension which in turn promotes oxygenation in the aquarium. Sometimes a filter doesn't create enough current so the bubblers help in that regard.

i use airstones in my fish room but use a power head in the main tank

Bubbler's/air stones are pretty and that's about all.

As the bubbles break surface the ripples increase the water's surface area so marginally increase the transference of oxygen from the atmosphere into the water. Little or no oxygen goes from the bubbles into the water as they are not there long enough.

Some fish love playing in the stream of bubbles......my Rusty pleco used to lay waiting directly over where the bubbles would come from as I used to have a pump on a timer.
