Bubble Nest

ok, ive had my betta for a couple months now. the smallest container he was in was a 1.5 gallon bowl, hes now in a 3 gallon tank. His water is great. He has always eaten well. He has plenty of broad leaf and grassy plants to hide and play in, which he does. He swims very well and is more active then most bettas i have personally seen. He is also with a cory cat that he gets along with very well. I just want him to be happy.
My problem is I have never seen him build a bubble nest which is what i thought happy bettas did. I cant find anything on Faith's site about NOT building a nest and i don't know if thats bad or not. I don't care if he builds one, i just want him to be happy. Does it have something to do with the cory cat? I thought bettas still built nests when other fish were in the tanks, so i dont know if thats it or not.
Maybe he just isnt anticipating any girls coming around?

Sounds like you have a very happy betta, FightClubChick. He's just a carefree bachelor!

If you were to put a female in the tank with him, however, he'd start blowing bubbles and getting ready to be a daddy.

But, I don't really think your cory cat is as happy as he might be. These little fellows are schooling fish and do not really do well alone. Your tank is a bit on the small side to add many more fish, but one more cory will fit. Wait until you see them swim around the tank together. It will make a great difference in his life.

if there's a strong ripple or current on the water his bubblenests won't last long so he may not see the point in building one just to watch it disappear

I have a male betta in a 10g all by his lonesome, well theres a golden snail with him. I have it with plants, rocks, gravel etc etc. Its filtered with a whisper mini and creates a slight current. Hes extremely happy but also doesnt blow a nest unless I put a female nest to his tank.

Thanks for the help. I just dont want him to be sad.
As for the cory, it would be ok to add another one? I read about how they like to be in groups after i brought him home, but he gets along very well with the betta. The cory and betta even swim together, its pretty cute.
If I added another one would it need to be the same kind of cory? Or just the same size or so.

Hello, FightClubChick.

I'm glad to know you are considering getting another cory. I think that yours will enjoy the company of any other cory you put in the tank with it. It doesn't have to be the same kind.

Two of my 10 gallon tanks have cory fry in them (one batch is just hatching as we speak) so for the time being I have 6 different kinds of cory living together in another tank. They get along perfectly and swim around as a group.

those fish will be very happy together,

i think most fish like a friend to see

accept bettas ofcourse!

not all bettas build bubble nests, there not all the same
