it could be one of several things. all, well most, of which are powered by an, air pump. these cost from £10-£40 depending on, power, brand and, unfortunately, where you buy them. the parts you put in the tank, are called Airstones,bubble/air curtaines. you connect them to the pump, via clear air line. airstones, are solid objects, anywhere from 2- 12 inches in length costing between £1-£10. air crutains are soft rubber tubes, connected in the same way, but allow you to contour the pipe. they cost, from £10-£25. i find the "air curtain" give smaller bubbles, apart from that, they work in the same way. only warning here, is to check the air curtain you buy, not all come with weights to hold them down.

there are some that are self-contained. the Hydor hydro air colour, for instance. my advice for these, is leave well alone. if you must have one, pop over to my house, i have a Green one you could have with pleasure. it scares the living daylights out of all the fish, when put in the tank.

cool its abit far for me to collect im in cheshire do pets at home sell them

you can get Air pumps, stones and curtains, from most LFS. be warned though, not all internet sites are cheaper than LFS.

they are good if you just want to look at them, but apparently they don't really do much good to the water, except drive off co2, which you don't want if you have plants. they are good though if you are breeding egg laying fish like corys, as putting an airstone under the eggs stops fungus. they will probably add a bit of oxygen to the water.

cheers :good:

I better think about that then because I fully intend to plant my aquarium :S . Thanks.

Can I just tell you, I just bought an Elite air "set" that comes with a pump, air disk, air stone, tune and 2 air valves.....do not buy it! The pump is so loud, I coulnd't believe it when I tested it! The whole set it going back next weekend. I don't know how they honestly put "quiet" on the box.

i had that with the one i bought. it started off quiet, but just out of it's guarantee it suddenly went really loud and now produces a lot less bubbles.

cheers :good:
