Bronson's Fishless Cycle.

I started this cycle 19 days ago, this is what has been happening. Is everything going ok ?
Days 1-15 Ammonia=5ppm
Day 16. Ammonia=4ppm
Day 17. Ammonia=2ppm
Day 18. Ammonia=1ppm. Didnt check anything else until day 19.
Day 19. Ammonia= 0.50ppm. Nitrite=5ppm. Nitrate=40ppm

that seems like a good looking result to me i just cycled my tank ,with fish in though.
i would carry on as you are doing if i was you.
next time i will not be doing a fish in cycle lol.

you may need to reduce the levels a little more before adding fish.

ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 10ppm

somthing like that would indicate a finished cycle

Ammonia and Nitrites need to be hitting zero every twelve hours after dosing with Pure ammonia before classing a cycle as finished.

People recommend a week of hitting zeros before adding fish just to be safe. Also a big water change would be needed aswell prior to the fish as this would help remove the high Nitrates you will end up having.

Thanks guys, i know its just the beginning and i wont be putting fish in for a while yet. I just wanted to make sure it all looked right at this stage as this is my first tank.

What is your temp and pH?


Those bacs prefer higher temps (80-90F, optimum is around 84F) and higher pH (8.0-8.4, again optimum around 8.4 or so).

Day 20. Ammonia=0.25. Nitrite=5ppm Nitrate=40ppm. I have now re-dosed with ammonia, it is back up to 5ppm. My temp is 28" and P h is 7.6.

Day 21. Ammonia 4ppm. nitrite 5ppm. Nitrate 40ppm
Day 22. Ammonia 1ppm. Nitrite off the scale. Nitate 40ppm.

Lower your dosing now to 2-3pmm.
Re-dose when it drops to 0ppm.
Continue and wait for nitrite to drop to zero when you raise the ammonia dosing back up to 4-5ppm.
