I know that plecos can get territorial. I have a clown pleco who I love. He does not clean the tank of any algae. I love plecos and would like to find a small one that eats algae. I am waiting to see if my LFS got me the Pit Bull plecos I am waiting for. I hear these little guys are great at cleaning and only get 2 inches. But if they can not get any I was thinking about the bristlenose.

So my questions are
1. Can a clown pleco and bristlenose get a long in a 36 Gal tank with plenty of hiding places?
2. How well do the bristlenose pleco actually clean the tank will then eat algae off plants?
3. Should I just wait for the Pit bull plecos? Any one know how well they clean algae?

I have a little otto and well he is not doing much at cleaning the algae. He gets a little off the glass. I had 4 otos but only one was smart enough to live. This little guy learned from the other fish were to find the food that falls. So now he eats left overs and less algae. So I have to clean the algae myself. I know I know otos need to be with other Otos. I am afraid to get any other ones because I have had such bad luck with them. This little guy is the only one that lived and he is doing well. I hear the capturing of these little guys is so stressful that most die during shipment and then many die at the stores or in your tank. Just because of the extreme stress they go throw.

Well it looks like no one knows the answer to this question so the only way to find out for sure is to just do it. I have been reading up on keeping plecos of different types together and word is.... As long as you give them plenty of hide outs and territories it will be ok.

I am getting the bristle nose tomorrow. I am going to try and pick out a female. Females tend to be calmer and less territorial. I will let you guys know how they do.

hi m8 clown and bn's will be fine 2gether as u say they have alot of hiding spaces so as long as theres room they will be fine yes bn's are very good algae eaters will eat it off literally everythink includeing plants but can damage the plants in the process but then again any algae eating plec will probablydo the same pitbulls are just as good a eating algae but i still would opt for the BN but i guess thats just preference :)

yes they are fine together as i have them both together with no problems :good:

So I went to PetCo today where I had seen the bristle nose plecos. They were labelled as Common plecos. It was SO obvious that they were not commons. I told the guy there what they had he did not know. I pointed out the ones with bristles and he was like OH YEAH. They might not label their fish right, but they have healthy fish. All but 2 of my fish came from there. Since they had them labelled as Common plecos I got her for $2.45.

They were all 1.5 to 2 inches. I picked out a small one with no bristles. I am hoping I got a female. She is so cute and when I put her in the tank she went right to work. She found the Bogwood and was in heaven. She was right next to my clown pleco who was sitting at the entrance of her log. My clown is much bigger then this little girl. Nothing happened the little BN went off to find stuff to eat. I think it will all be ok. She adjusted so well. I am in love with my little pleco.

Here are some photos of my new fish.

Does that look like a common pleco to you? I mean yes she lacks the whiskers. A few of the other ones had some good whiskers going on. I would love to get a male and see if I could get them to spawn. But I think that would be a little much for my 36 Gal. I think the females are so pretty but the males with there bristles are so cool looking.

no m8 dont look nothink like a common lol defo a BN and a cute 1 at that :) congrats m8ee hope she keeps u entertained i know mine used 2 for hours :)

What a cutie!
Oh, man, I wish you experts had been around earlier when somebody else was wondering about mingling clown plecs and bulldogs or other types.
Knowing nothing, and knowing how it feels to wait for some response, I googled and relayed that they both could be territorial and that I personally wouldn't risk it but hoped for experts soon.
Hopefully, that person has had informed advice or will see this...
Of course, there were already had 3 clowns in a tank which I believe was not much over 30 gallons, ...

Oh yeah this little girl is so funny. I have one of those pirate ships that opens and lets out bubbles. Well she sat on it and went for a ride. My husband and I thought it was the best. She also does this little twirl when she is done sucking the glass. I am so happy with this little fish. They are so active and yes entertaining. My clown pleco never was this active or fun to watch. All she does it look pretty.

This little fish has own me over. I am glad I got her instead of the pit bull plecos. :D
