pH is about 7.6.....I have very soft water (according to my test kit)....apparently bnoses like soft acidic water to breed....soo.....mine not exactly that and they still bred.
My female is about 4 inches long, my male is closer to 3 inches (just under perhaps)....they spawned 2 weeks after I added the female to the tank.....In the darkest part of the tank (coincidentally in an ornament of a car underneath the bonnet
)
I didn't do anything else....I read about temperature adjustments and filter currents and all, I never got around to that, I wanted them to breed but not that badly....then my male disappeared and then I had fry
Which I am happy about...
But man, they grow SOOOOO quick....they have doubled in size since I first saw them.....fat wise anyway.....And they camouflage themselves well in the gravel and ornaments....they are smart little creatures...the platies don't even see them, even when their head is right next to one.....
The only prob I have had with them is that they kept going into the filter....I had to rescue 10 last night from my AC300.....the Fluval and AC200 were clear of fry...luckily....now I have foam around all the filter intakes.....
I read last night that they will spawn every 6 weeks....my male looks like he is allready preparing his cave....and the fry have just left home
...better find a good LFS to sell/trade them in!!
