Anyone else got one ?

Mine is fine , but i notice a slight Light brown mottle effect on parts of his skin , is this normal ? books say they have very individual markings , not sure if they meant light brown marks though . any thoughts anyone ?

Hi Jasper

Yes I have 2, they're great and yes they are quite individual with their colourings. I dont think you have anything to worry about but if his colourings change dramatically then i would ask again. In the mean time i'll see if i can photograph mine :S and i'll post them here.

Thanks Anne , i am a bit concerned as i have balloon mollies ( amnongst other things ) and have a small amount of salt in the water . My LFS said no way would it be harmfull to the bn .....

If it's what I think it is - it's very normal indeed. They often temporarily develop these patches when stressed, frightened or out and about during daylight hours, to camoflage themselves.

I bought 2 BN on Saturday. They are fantastic. At the moment they are approximately 4cms long, and so cute. Mine both have different markings, and I will be keeping an eye on them to hopefully be able to tell them apart as they grow.

I have put two very small plant pots in the tank, facing outwards, and love seeing them hide in them.

Hope all turns out to be okay for you and yout BNs.

Thanks for the info :) has put my mind at rest

Thanks , & good luck with yours !

I bought a breeding par of BN's, I hope they are successful. Also hope that you are all correct in thinking that jasper has nothing to worry about. Let us know how they get on.

I have a BN... when First bought, he was paler with banding... now he has settled he is darker with dots... 'stress' bands have gone...

They can change their colour slightly depending on their moods :) I've got a total of 8 now (in various tanks) and no two are identica. Here's a couple of shots to show the different markings :)
