Breeding Stingrays

On the contrary, motoros breed like mollies (well, not quite, but near enough) when in the right conditions. The problems boil down to cost (of both rays, tanks, filtration etc), tank size (motoros are huge as adults) and getting breeding groups at the right sizes- like other livebearers, females can get harassed to death by the males. And obviously they need to be large before they can breed.

Yes, I agree with OohFeeshy, the reason Rays aren't often bred in aquaria is because most people can not offer the right conditions in which to breed them.

I have not decided on the type of stingray yet but I already have the tank. Its a 180 gallon 6x2x2. I already have the filters 2 fluval 405 and an aquaclear 500. For substrate I was thinking pool filter sand? I have a rena cal 300 heater and a heater guard. I will also make sure to get the female larger than the male

Ok thanks guys. I've always read that it's only been done a couple times so was unaware of that. Thanks for the info. :good:

Hey Mojodex, we could go steal his aquarium and each take half?

Tank size is far too small, you need 3' wide for motoros at the very least. Also, it's often reccomended to have more than one female per male. 8-9" means there's a long way to go before breeding size- TBH, you really haven't thought anything through.
