Breeding Sooner Than Thought...

Why does everyone all of a sudden think the cool thing to do is breed fish? Is creating life the new "in" thing this year?

Females are "good for" usually 3-4 spawns is the max. They need at least a 3-week rest period, or until her fins are fully healed and she's ready to spawn.

Personally, I think you should re-think this WHOLE thing if you aren't willing to spend $9 on the spawning tank ... honestly. I've spent about $200 so far! Not counting my pair, which cost over $100. Betta spawning just isn't a good idea for anyone on a strict budget, IMHO.

I'm willing to spend money on a tank, but you know, it's just always nicer if you can just borrow something.

You can get a "spawning tank" (aka big plastic tub) for like $5 at Walmart, haha.

Hmm, I like Target's better, as, I dunno, i guess i'll go walmart, as they have a fish department, although it isn't good.

I would have to agree with splashluff...if your not willing to spend the money on the right equipment then are you really willing to do all the work it taks to have a spawn going? These little guys are really delicate and if you dont do it right then your entire spawn could be ruined all beacuse you wouldnt want to do it the right way and spend money on it the first time. Specailly if you are considering mulitple spawns in the future instead of 're-borrowing' a tank for your spawn over and over again why dont you just invest in one?

Read the quote. I was just stating it would be nice. I'm not to old yet, so I wouldn't consider breeding bettas would be my job.

"Breeding" Bettas is a hobby for almost everyone that spawns... unless you're Faith from Bettatalk, with several huge fish rooms and dozens of spawns going at once, you aren't going to make a living off of Bettas spawning.

The point is, that the tank is the cheapest thing about spawning Bettas, basically! $5-10 is nothing. And, I wanted to point out that just driving 30 minutes to pick up/drop off the tank will cost more in gas money than the tank is worth.

So you are sayin it is wrong? I just really want to improve that nice deep red fin color.

if theres a petsmart near you they sell 10 gallons for ..well 6 bucks is the cheapest ive seen but now its like 8. and i iknow its a dollar cheaper if you have one of those member cards.

OA, if you want to sell the Bettas, or just give them away, you can add a free ad in the ST newspaper (Star tribune).
Thats what i'm going to do with my swordies Once I get them breed. (How do you say breed in past tense? is it like "bread?")
Here's a link to the web site Star tribune; Free ads
