Foil? :p

 You are copying me, you loser!! Totally kidding, but it is funny! You're gettin all my rare fish so I'm not so special. :grr: Grrr! You better not get foerschi now! :p :sly: Anyways, they are not big fans of major current, but as they are mouthbrooders, they do come from an area that isn't stagnant. I've found that mine like a medium current, not too strong, but enough to keep things moving as long as there are places to rest. They do like pots, and often spawn in them. The fry won't need microworms, as they are bigger than egg layer fry, but they'll work fine for awhile.

Also - wait at least two weeks after this incident with the male. He'd probably spawn then, but wouldn't do as good of a job taking care of kiddos while he's brooding, if he's not up to par. They need to be conditioned just like any other betta before spawning also, just fyi. Remember that dad doesn't eat for two weeks when he's brooding (another reason to wait after your guy's crazy day).

Ask away if you have more questions, I've learned quite a bit about these fish and they're some of my favorites. Now I'm on to foerschi. :hyper:
 Julie! i hope ya can find a good deal!

i have some falx lined up for $10 a pair, thats what i paid originally... but from what i remember julie, dont you have 1 female 2 males?... i could put all 3 in my 20g couldnt i? im jus wondering if i should get another pair, or 2 males from this guy..

im also getting another pair of mouthbrooders but they are $20 a pair

im getting 2 more falx, and another pair of some mouthbrooding wilds from someone else... so hopefully shipping will be easy, and i wont find a way to kill them

cutecotton - I don't know exactly how he does it, but they seem to have no problem. As far as I can tell, they move the babies further back into the bottom and far back of the pouch, and then take a quick gulp. Also, I got them from a breeder who is somewhat local. If you're interested, I've got plenty of fry growing out. :)

nibbles - I wouldn't get just a pair of "wild mouthbrooders" unless you know what you're getting this time. :/

I used to have 2 males and 1 female yes, and that is what you want ideally because the females pester the males to spawn all the time. So I hope you're getting 2 more males, not a female... Anyways, one of my males died after jumping out though, found him dried out on the floor in the morning. :-( You could probably keep a trio in the 20 comfortably yes, but you'd need a spawning tank too for the male to release in and the fry to grow up in.

betta_lova - I already did find a good deal. I've got a pair of B. foerschi right now.

i could get foerschi for $25 a pair... when i was saying ''some other kind of mouthbrooder'' .. im waiting on an email from the seller telling me what other mouthbrooding ones he has.. i didnt just say ''send me something''.. that wouldnt be very intelligent but hey i left a fkkkkking lid off and killed the male falx so who knows what im capable of..

right now i have 2 empty 10s and an empty 5... so probably i will spawn them in the 20... do i remove the male once the eggs are in his mouth ?.. anyways, whenever i have to remove the male, he will have a 10g to himself, then ill still have the 5 and 10 if i decide to breed the other pair i get..

im still waiting to find out what other types of mouthbrooders he has..

i know he has picta.. apparently they are like pugnax.. and the foerschi he has .. the male is a deep blue color.. so im gonna wait and find out what i can get.. i have till sunday to decide, as he will ship on monday.. ample time to prepare

You need to do some more research on mouthbrooders before breeding. :/ Give em at least a month to settle in... At least thats IMO. No you don't remove the male right away, you need to give him at least a few days for the eggs to "harden". I like to wait until a few days before he is due to release. I'd try to leave the 20 open if you can for fry... maybe spawn them in there and remove the female, or move him into it after spawning in a different tank. The bigger the tank for fry, the better.

Yes, picta are like falx (in appearance at least) but smaller I believe. Foerschi are harder, just warning you. They're also larger and require a lot of different care.

Why don't you just get the falx and wait on another mouthbrooding type? :dunno: That way you can get a feel for how it goes and how different from bubblenesters and splendens they are. I'd definitely suggest it. -_- They're just complete opposites, and since falx are easy they'd be good starters. This seller isn't gonna run out, I'm sure you could get some more in a few months or something if you wanted. Anyways, up to you, just MHO again.

well.. im only gonna order once, so i will probably get 2 pairs.. doesnt mean i have to breed both pairs at once anyways.. i have room to keep the other pair of whatever i get separate... but im asking for 2 male falx.. so i will put the female and 2 males in maybe the 10g tank.. let them spawn, and once one of the males has had eggs for what, a week?? i can move him to the 20 for him to raise the fry..... i wont be getting them till next friday so i have 2 a week to figure out where im going to put what, but i only have till sunday to decide what im going to order
