is there any way i could induce breeding in my herotilapia multispinosa. last few times they've bred on their own to have no luck. any suggestions welcome. i have a pair but they will not breed anymore.

lip locking doesn't mean they are male/female or interested in spawning.. but as for identifying them, there are no physical characteristics you can look at.. so you basically have to wait for eggs, and figure out which one laid the eggs..

Chances are your male is sterile, but if you add a male convict, it might fertilize the eggs.

How big is your tank and what fish do you have in there?

sorry i just moved the post into hybreds and setup this one up insted. their in a 5 foot by 18in by 18in

Change the water, turn the temperature up to around 80 degrees, and feed them frozen foods :)

When I had rainbow cichlids, I couldn't get them to stop breeding :p

i do 25% water changes a week :)

i recently turned the temperature up they went into their beatuiful breeding colours . then nothing. :(

i feed chiclid pellets, flake, shrimp every few days and blood worm every three or so days.

i wish i had the same problem lol.

do you have any other advise?

cheers for what you've said so far :good:

I bought a pair 10 days ago and now have wrigglers. They laid eggs on the side of a plan pot and then transferred them to a pit they dug at the back amongst the Vallis.

They appear to take turns in guarding the eggs. I had been feeding them frozen food, then the same day I gave them live bloodworm and brineshrimp they laid eggs.

i want that sort of success :(

i haven't fed live food for a while actually i'll get some in the near future probably next week.

cheers :good:

Well they are free swimming now, hundreds of the buggers. I have posted pics on another thread here

nice pictures mine have never had that many.

mine are getting their breeding colours well 3 of them are some how and theres not two pairs as there are 3 fully grown and 4 riughly 1 inch.

the first time they bred out in the open but now the 3 large one's are all in their own cave(flowerpot). they only come out when their fed and don't like anything near their homes. as i said their in breeding colours so hopefully something might happen got to wait and see.

cheers everyone :good:
