Breeding Guppy's As Feeders

not really. I heard someone say survival of the fittest.

Its like saying, can i feed flies too my spider? Course you can

Unless you cant find a cheaper alternative, then go for it.

Some people may believe otherwise though.

wasn't sure if it wasfrowned upon, seems a bit cruel but was i think my GT would benefit when he's big enough.

jd

i used to breed livebears for food for some of my fish. i know some think it's wrong but as said do you stop spiders from eating flies, i've also bred many insects for feeding various things.

but what about people who have livebears in their community tank and all the fry get eaten it's practically the same.

:good:

loads of people do and guess what they are called "feeder guppys!!"

i have a 20 gal with
2 rams
1 bn plec
3 corydoras

and an empty 10 gal.

Wouldyou suggest i put the guppy's in the 20 gal and put the rams in the 10g or just put the guppy'sin the 10g.

and what ratio of males to females would you suggest either for the 10g or 20g??

thanks

jd

good ratio is 1 male to 2 females then apply that so 2 males needs 4 females and so on. some people may suggest 3 female to 1 male but i go with the 2 females.

i duno which way would be best which ever's easiest i suppose.

:good:

was thinking ifi use theempty 10g i can put marbles down as a substrate so the fry can hideout down there

i would reccommend java moss to hide fry. all over the bottom or floating not a plant expert really.

:good:

good idea, should be getting some on the weekend

i can't wait till he's a bit bigger,been toldit will take awhile.

i'm gona feel so guilty about feeding guppy's!!

will let you know how it goes.

thaks jayjay, ur a lifesaver

jd

i would probably have 1male to every 3/4 female

2 males for every 6/8 female

they are randy buggers

Paul

PS i dont see anything wrong with it, i have to buy live food for my Lepoard Geckos and Chameleion (locusts and crickets) !!!

cheers JD anyhow do you know how long he will take to grow? i heard they take a while?

good luck

:good:

i read a gt will grow about 3.5 inches max in a year, very slow growers.

yeah should be getting 4 sd'son saturday money permitting.
buying lots offish this weekend, i want 6 guppy's 4 sd's and 3 leopard coreys plus some decorations for my 55gal.

bloody fishcosting me a fortune. lol

EDIT - spelling

I was trying to do the same thing for my bolivian rams. My guppies have already bred and I have fry, but the cichlids are not taking them as food. I think they are too small, so be careful, your cichlids may not accept the rams until they are significantly larger. Good luck though! :good:
