Hi,
I currently have 8 Albino corys in a 4ft tank, I have had them all now about 6 months, they were quite small when I first got them, however all seem really healthy and have grown to around an inch and a half. , possibly bigger
The only other inhabitants in the tank are a large shoal of neons, I wanted to give them space with lots of hiding places etc to breed, however they are showing no signs at all, I have tried the usual water changes with cooler water etc .. Just wondered if they were possibly too young ?? At what age are they considered fully grown etc etc ...

Sorry for asking I have read nearly every post and cant find anyother real answer. Beggining to think that there is only me that can have a shoal of 8 either all male or all female , I cant tell by the size differences - either that or the neons gulping the eggs when I am not around ???

They are all really really active most of the time, I have a large bubble curtain at the back of the tank running full length, and they seem to have decided to not bother doing anything other than "Surfing" Even though it is very funny to watch !! :hyper:

Thanks
Becks.

I think it depends on the type of albino, there are several.

You're first indication that they are ready to breed is that the female gets quit big in her girth. I mean big! Then you'll see the males pestering her.

If you don't see any of that then they're probably still too young.

If you DO see it and then one day she's gotten slimmer then probably the eggs got eaten. BUT, if she laid any on the glass you might still see the tel-tale markings of where the eggs were.

I personally think that your 7 or 8 month old corys are too young. But I've been wrong before.

Cheers.

lol

i'm actually going to be doing the same shortly with C. sterbai, i'm just lowering my pH level to 6.5 for them at the moment. whats your pH level at?

i've been reading, night after night, page after page, on how to get corydoras to breed and i've also not really found any answer to how old or how big they have to be before they start spawning so i too would love this answer. i'm just seeing it as the slower i lower my pH level, the less time i have to wait for them to begin spawning once it has dropped.

have you tried putting ice cubes into your tank before you turn the lights off and go to bed? apparently this too signals the breeding season for corys and they should have spawned, or are still spawning, when you come in and turn the lights on. i'm just not sure how many icecubes to add lol

goodluck :good: and i hope you can get more advice from someone who has acheived this lol

Hey, Thanks for the ideas and advise, too young huh ... Bum LOL

I have tried feeding Live food once a week at water change , they love that , but havent tried the ice cubes - Someone else suggested that but not seen it anywhere else and I too wouldnt know how many to add... So I have been going with the Cooler water changes.

Last time I checked ph was about 7, which I thought was ok for them so may have to try and lower that ..

Watch this space in about another 4 months I think , they are too busy "Surfing LMAO"

You can lower the water temp all you want, if she doesn't have any eggs in her it won't help.

I have decided to leave them be , have done it a couple of times, and decided I may as well let them be young and have fun , leave them in peace ... LOL After All you are only young once .. HA HA :shout:

Bex if all else fails get yourself over to BAS and I'll help you choose some nice new Corys!! :good: :p

I have been very interested in breeding my Cory but not had any luck.

I'm positive I have 2x females one is bronze the other Albino.

the female I believe is the one that when resting the belly prevents her head touching the ground.
and has a sort of Pouch looking part on her stomach! (is this when she had eggs?)

I have a huge amount of interest from the males, Well more so the female chasing males (wish this happened to me :D)

I have lots of rubbing along with going up and down the plants
Sadly not had a single eggs :(

Anyone know how many Ice Cubes go into the top of the tank? mine is a 22gal
I'm feeding Blood Worm and it's fantastic watching them go into a frenzy :D

Albino cories get huge, im talkin 6.5cm huge. They breed so readily that there price is low, you can get a full grown adult for £7.50 round my LFS. I have 3 albinos i would class as Juve's even though there around 2 inch - 2 1/2 inch.

I have heard of a little blue pill that may help?

Seriously though as I have said....I have not done nothing at all and my cory's have spawned, think they must just be randy little so and so's (not like their owner I must add) ha!

I hope you get some eggs soon, but if not don't forget, I have some hatched here for you, I reckon by next week they should be ready for you to pick up...!

I think I have about 12 still....after the accident with the tub...so am happy for you to take all of them :)

hi becca320
if ure sure uv got male and female they should be old enuff to spawn by now as iv got some bronze
C Aneus i breed 6 months ago and there laying eggs now.
so i think they become mature at around that age if ure 100% that uv got m&f u can see from a top veiw the females are wider and plumper if u look eye on into the tank.
just feed them more on frozen foods such as black fly, brine shrimp, blood worms daphnia and other foods as flake ,pellet ,tubafix. what they dont eat over night hover up the next day and replace the food with fresh with a cool water changes every day even straight from the cold water tap.
more food = a good time to reproduce
are the albinos uv got C Aneus :good:
