Hehehe...a couple of days ago i visited the aquarium section of Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. What i saw there amazed me, but everyone else there just thought i was weird.
They have a huge tropical pond in one of the glass houses, and it has an under ground viewing window. Looking through, i saw mainly convicts, including lots of pairs in the rocks with babies. I thought that was cool to see them in a nice big pond thats pretty natural, but it was not what amazed me :D .
Out from the murky waters came a.....massive pearlscale goldfish! After that i started to see other fish too. Looking up to the surface there were loads of zebra danios shoaling, and every now and then there would be groups of 2-3 swordtails darting past all the convicts. There were more fancy goldfish too, orandas and fantails, and the not so fancy comet goldfish, shubunkins and regular goldfish and koi.
I also saw a lone massive silver shark, silver dollars, a big common plec swimming along the bottom and some huge pink cichild that just very slowly moved past.
There were tonnes of baby swordtails near the edge of the surface too, and i saw the goldfish pick some of them off.
The top pond bit was closed off unfortunately for some reason, but from what i could see through the door and my vague memory's of it from the past, towards the back away from the viewing window it is heavily planted with what i think was elodea and they have big massive floating plants, with tonnes of duckweed at some parts of the pond.
Possibly my favorite tank(well....pond) of all time, and just go's to show that in the right environment nearly any fish combos can work! :hyper:
I took 3 videos on my phone, but they are of rubbish quality and at the moment i cant get them off the phone, but i will post them later when i can, maybe tommorow(one of them shows the pearlscale with the convicts).
Next time i go i will take my proper camera too!

I don't see how it would be good for all the fish.. considering goldfish are coldwater fish, and the rest are not..

that sounds quite interesting, :)
mabey oneday i might go see it.
yes, a video would be amazing!!!! :D

True, but all of the fish were very healthy, and the water will probably be around 24 celcius (since its not heated - the glass house is) which is fine for the fancy goldfish and the only affect on the regular goldfish and koi would be a faster metabolism and shorter life.
Still, much better than being kept in tanks! Its a pond! No freezing over, no herons - a good life for the fish in my view :) .
