Bowl Vs Tank?

can you put males and females together? I have heard that if you do this you need to give them LOTS of room to stay away from each other. I would love to have a "betta tank" if you can do this

Also random ?: has anyone had their betta flare their gill covers at food? mine did it this morning everytime he went to eat and its very odd...if anything he flares his fins its very rare to see him puff out his gills

Most responsible betta keepers do not recommend keeping males and females together. They can fight, stress each other and generally won't be too happy with it. Sometimes they'll even kill each other. If it is to be done it must be in a very large tank - I'd say 200 litres plus!

Really don't recommend it. Females can be kept together in a 15 gallon, though. 5-7 should be a good number. Might still fight but rarely as badly as males or males and females.

Yeah i have a 200L so it does give room to spread aggression my male has an area he lives in and generally just flares at other fish who go near it other than that he never bothers anything.

Wouldnt mix them in a small tank though even females need a relatively large tank if you plan on keeping a few they can get a bit nippy although they are all different.
