Hello

SO I have bought an Orca Tl550 - very exciting although it will be a month or 2 before it has anything in it - in order to spread out the costs I am buying one thing from my shopping list every payday.

Next month I want to buy an RO unit - but this is one area that still confuses me a lot. I have been on (am on right now!) the RO man website but a few things still get me:

What size is best for a tank my size? Anyone out there with the 550 able to tell me which unit they have?

Do they have to be plumbed into my water supply? I live in a rented property and I would not be allowed to go all handy Andy on the place. Are there any available that do not need plumbing?

If not is my only alternative to buy ro water in jerry cans from my lfs?

Any advise guys?

id say a 25 or 50gpd would do the job fine for a nano.

do you have an outside tap mate? i have seen people able to attach them to it just when in use then storing indoors when finished with it

Hello mate - nope i live in a 7th floor flat. Would I be able t just plug it into the kitchen/bathroom tap or something?

i dont really know much about ro units as i just buy my ro. but do they not come with a self piercing valve thing, so if you bought 2 you could just close one and leave it there when you move out probably best fit it under the sink. landlord would never notice

does that make sense

The bigger the RO the better, any size would do really, but a higher GPD means you wont need to wait as long for water. And the GPD rating that they have is with ideal water temperature and pressure, so results could vary. In winter i get about 5 gallons every 4-6 hours on a 100GPD rated RO unit, but my water pressure is only medium and Chicago city tap water gets pretty cold in the winter.

As Musho eluded to the system runs slower/quicker according to the weather/temp.

I have jsut a small unit, 50 which suits me just fine - it does take a bit longer to make the RO than the bigger units, but hey I'm in no rush.

You can plumb it in under the sink either using a self piercing tool into the main water pipe or using a y connector to the washing machine.

Make sure you buy ball valves as well, so that you can keep the membrane wet at all times - also consider getting a unit with a DI attached so that you can bring your water down to aTDS of 0. You will also need to buy either an inline TDS meter or a hand held one :

You could attach it to your washing machine using a Y fixing http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.ph...40980164d78bdaa and this http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.ph...40980164d78bdaa, then you wouldn't need to attach it to any pipes.

I have this one http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.ph...40980164d78bdaa, with my water pressure it makes around 25l in about 5 hours :good: try to get one with a DI unit to achieve 0 TDS

Thanks, thats very helpful. I think I will call the RO Man and have a chat with them.

Thanks Seffie. To be honest for some reason this whole RO unit thing is making my brain ache. Maybe its because its Friday and its warm! I will give the RO guys a call and tell them what I need and hopefully they will just send me what i want and tell me what to do!

If possible, ask your landlord (if renting) or somehow find out your water pressure in your house, if the water pressure is TOO low (common with people using well water) you may need a pressure pump for the RO unit to work properly. The people at RO man can probably help with that too.
