Hi all

One of my bosemani rainbows has red sores on his body. I have just dosed the last dose of Melafix which has had no effect at all and I don't know what to do. He seems very bad tempered and nips at the other rainbows in the tank, although none of them have any sores or marks whatsoever. I do see the other rainbows retaliate to his nipping by nipping him back and they do always seem to go for his sides in the areas of the sores so maybe that is not helping if not the cause. I have videoed him as that is the only way I can seem to catch him on film, so please take a look and let me know what you think. You will see him about 10 seconds into the film when I finally managed to focus on him. He is eating normally and very active. Any help here will be very appreciated.

Red usually is indicative of a bacterial infection; red sores in rainbows are often a sign of mycobacteriosis -- look this up.

Melafix is ineffective against bacterial infections. You can try an antibiotic. furan2, kanamycin, minocycline, doxycycline may be effective if the cause is not mycobacteria.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I sincerely hope it is not mycobacteriosis as that sounds quite nasty! I've been advised on another forum to use one of the Interpet range of meds and to separate the fish into a hospital tank. Worth a try, I just have to get myself a tank now.
