I picked up 7 of these guys a couple weeks back and I must admit they are lovely little fish. They go perfectly with my betta persephones. At first they were a little drab in color but they have reddend up nicely. They are similar to Boraras maculatus but in my opinion these guys are nicer looking.

I'm going to try and take some pictures of them and I'll put them in the picture section :)

I brought 6 B.maculata and discovered that two of them were B.merah :)
they are indeed a stunning little fish.

sadly mine all died due to a fungal outbreak. they are very sensative to meds
and any treatment should be at half dose. I wish I knew that at the time :(

I belive that Thapus has few boraras species, mybe he'll see this and add his 2cents.

I have B. maculata, B. merah B. brigittae and B. urophthalmoides at the moment. I love them. Look forward to the pictures. Being so small, they are not easy to get good pictures of. Make a nice change to see some Cyprinids on the picture board!

It's nice to see some others have had a chance to own these little guys and see them up close. I intended on buying B. maculata when I went into the shop but the guy didn't have any in at the moment and then I did see B. brigittae and asked about getting some of those but he only had all females left and I wanted some males too so he showed me B. merah and I thought they were really nicely patterend and colored and thought since they were smaller than B. maculata they would look nicer in with my betta persephones. I'm glad I got them. They add a lot of color and personality to the tank.

I put up a couple of pictures of them in the picture section so take a look when you have the time and yes Lateral Line they were really hard to photograph :X The 2 shots I put up were the best out of about 20-25 and even still I am not the happiest with them. I wanted a group shot of them but none would sit still long enough for that to happen.

I am famous for "wasting" big tanks. Most people believe if you have a big tank, you should keep big fish. I don't. To me, a 2m tank with a big catfish in it looks like a fish in a tank. The same tank, well planted and with 3-4 groups of 10+ fish all under 50mm looks more like a slice of nature. They shoal up tight, and behave naturally.

I applaud your choice.

I'm like you Lateral Line. Although I do love cichlids too :) But for the most part I love setting up 10,15,30 gallon tanks planting them and then putting in some type or labyrinth fish and then adding a nice little shaoling fish. I'm a fan of snails too. I think they look nice, keep the tank balanced and are the best clean up crew I've come across. I like keeping things natural.

I've already got my next tank planned out. I should be getting it up and running within the month. I'll be setting up either a 30 gallon or a 14.5 gallon tank planting it and adding 5-6 Trichopsis pumila and then adding either Sundadanio axelrodi "blue" or Sundadanio axelrodi "red". They are amazing little fish I think!

My plans after that tank are trying a pair of Scarlet Dario Darios and possibly some peacock gudgeons in separate tanks of course.
