I can't disagree with you really. I'm just saddened that my other fish have to be 'treated' alongside the Bolivian Ram. My fish are disease free 99.9% of the time. Its only when I buy new one's that trouble brews!

OK.
I would use Seachem Metronidazole, or Seachem Kanaplex.
They might knock your water stats.

I had the same problem so bought an isolation. It just having the room for one.

Do you happen to know if any of those will make my Corydoras ill? I know salt needs to be avoided. I usually only use Veterinary grade treatments outside the main aquarium with the fish to be treated. Due to it being very late I cant go about removing it from the main tank at the moment.

It's more the parasite medications with corys.
If you have inverts I would remove them.

It would be far better to treat him on his own.
He going down hill fast so need to act fast. As I don't think there much left in the poor little guy.
Also soak his food in garlic.

Keep fingers crossed for you.
Good Luck.
Do you mind letting me know how he gets on as I've fallen in love with him.

Yes, you need to make sure that its safe for scaleless fish.

Which medication would you suggest sawickib in these 2.

I would use Seachem Metronidazole, or Seachem Kanaplex.

I think the Seachem Kanaplex will be more safe.
I have never used them.

Seachem Metronidazole,
I know that this med is for internal parasites and also treat bacterial infections.
I have heard of Kanaplex but had to look it up.  Did a vet prescribe it?

I'll go and get the 20L 'hospital' tank, put a small filter in, get the de-chlorinator and med mixed in. Might add some Waterlife Vitazin (vitamin supplement) if its bacterial as I don't want to be feeding any parasites that it may have.

Will keep you informed. I've had a koi that acted like the ram (in that it didn't eat and its colours were changed; lighter rather than darker) and it recovered in a 6-7 days.

Good Luck Mark.

I'm pretty certain both are safe to use with dwarf cichlids but I always feel the need to step back and think when using medications with cory's.

I bought the Kanaplex from an online American store. It's basically an antibiotic which the manufacturer claims will be absorbed through the skin. I hope this is the case as a local Vet has said to me that the antibiotic absorption claim is false marketing.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic and anti-parasite so perhaps I should use this given that the fish could have a internal parasite? I know it's a popular drug in humans and dogs when they have a bacterial infection.

Wondered where you had got the Kanaplex from. Thank you for the information on the medication as well.
Have you ever used it. If so what were the results?

I see you have another wormer also Kusuri Wormer Plus. Never used it but you can get hold of it pretty easily.
Sterazin by waterlife is crap in my opinion. Used for flukes.
I don't think the anti internal bacteria medication by interpet will do anything for your fish.
As he to far gone.

If you can isolate I would use Seachem Metronidazole, Though it does depend on which internal parasite a fish has.

If you can't isolate I would use the Kanaplex.

I fed my fish antibiotics.
All you do is crush the antibiotic up and mix with food.
Get an egg and separate the yoke and use the white of the egg. Roll the food and antibiotic mix in egg white.
Put in fridge to set for half an hour. It's been a very long time since I had to do this.

Antibiotic injections are also far better but you can't go and take a neon tetra to the vet.

The problem is the fish won't eat and dwarf cichlids can sometimes be the most picky eaters. I have tried feeding blood worms that have been injected with dissolved liquid metronidazole but the fish (dwarf cichlid) just spits it out. I doubt it would associate egg white with food due to how picky these type of fish can be.

Its a totally different ball game with bigger fish like koi and goldfish. They are not as picky and them eating medicated food is something which I can envisage.

Anyway, the Bolivian is now in its own tank which i've treated with Metronidazole:

I agree. It's only good to use medicated food if the fish is still eating. Fish are not picky eaters.

Bless Him. All on his own. Think you done the right thing by separating him.

Good Luck.

Can you just place something into the tank so that he can hide. in. It just makes them feel safe.
Even if it's only a cup.

my two Bolivian rams like to eat algae wafers the best but they also pick at flake food and scavange through the sand for leftover bits--are you able to set up a hospital tank and treat just the ram?   Keep and eye on your other fish to be sure they don't get infected with whatever the ram has.
