Boita Compatibility

Congratulations on the eggs!! Thats cool. My fish are still being a pain in the butt. The clowns are gonna have to go. Right now im trying to figure out where i could put my 55 gal tank in a good place maybe she would let me set that up for my plants... Probably just wishful thinking but maybe if i think it through enough i can convince her. :) other than that things are good. My new little bn is doing good. Pooping all over as it eats just the brown algae and makes me clean the green. Maybe i should get some ottos. But they are so sensitive... I dunno. I like them though.

Take her on a date :)  I love my ottos. I'm up to 8 of them lol. They are sensitive, but I think if your tank is mature enough then they should be fine. I didn't lose a single one through all of these spikes. They do need a lot of plants though, so maybe once the clowns go you can get a school of them. I really like them a lot.

Well I think I solved my issue with the 55 gal tank. Pretty sure I have someone that wants to buy it. so problem solved! haha oh well. just gives me more money to put towards getting more fish or what not. :) We will see what happens.

Did you sell the clown loaches? And how long did you give them time when increasing the algae wafers in their diet(presuming you didn't starve them all along)?

I think it was about 2 weeks snazy.  Oh, they were far from starved lol They were fat giant things in the videos :D

FISH MONEY!!!! hehe nothing wrong with that! you can put it towards plants or fish or whatever you want.

Kinda hard to keep up with the wc's that my tank needs right now when there's little angel fry in there. :S

That vid of the little yoyo scooting around, then the gigantic clown swimming by was pretty funny

Sorry I was at work and things dont show up right when i'm there.. lol I'm exited about fish money also! love having money to spend just on my tank. I need to get some plexiglass and make a couple new lids I think should be the first thing. fifty bucks for a sheet the right size to make two lids.. Wondering if the thinner material would work ok. would be cheaper, and easier to cut... Wanted to get the .220 thickness so i know it will support my lights ok. Its difficult because my tank has two lids instead of the usual 3 most 6ft tanks have.

I also found a t5ho fixture I would like to get a couple of to replace my lights, would give me 1.5 wpg, and i could run the two 4 ft standard ones next to the two fixtures. would give me an extra 56watts, running me right up with 2wpg. think that would help my little plants out a lot! the fixtures are 100 bucks each. Its also a grow light so I believe they also come in the daylight bulbs. Still a little off in the future.

Greenmumma, you said your tank is 2ft deep? how many wpg do you have? and do you have Normal output lights or HO lights?

And I dont starve my fish! lol I can olnly feed them once a day though. I do feel bad about that. But they all seem happy and healthy with how I have been feeding them. I work 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week. I do feed them twice on sunday though :)

I'm also getting bored with my hardscape at the moment.. :( Now you know whats gotta happen... haha

Uh oh... you have the rescape bug :) There's only one cure for that!!! There is sooo much you could do in a 6ftr.  I know there are certain plants that people use in cichlid tanks bc cichlids eat plants, but they won't eat those, so maybe your loaches won't either?? IDK, maybe worth looking into though...

Yup, my tank is 23" tall, I have a basic shop light so it's def. not HO. I have 2) 32 watt T8's, so i have a smidge over 1wpg, which is not a lot at all :( I often wonder what my plants would do with more...  they're daylight bulbs so they have like 6500k, which is higher than most of the "plant" bulbs I've found. They probably don't have all the light spectrum things, but they seem to be working alright.  I've been wanting to find a way to replace it with T5's as well though.  I would look into the shop lights first before you purchase anything, they're sooooo much cheaper, and mine is black and fits my tank perfectly, you wouldn't even know it's a shop light. The fluorescent lights don't get hot either, so mine is sitting right on top of my glass, and so far so good lol.  I've watched a video where they guy said for a quick boost, to put the metal tape (used for taping around ductwork) in your fixture and that will almost double what you have. I would do that, but I don't want 120 watts, I would like to be around 100.  You have to be careful when you get around 2wpg, that's on the high tech side, and that's when you'll get imbalanced without co2. Algae :gross:

Yeah i'm gonna tear it down on a sat night when my girlfriend works so I can spend as much time on it as I need to. lol. She works 7p to 7a, so that leaves a big window! hahaha. Kinda wishing I was back in my 4 fter for that one. :) I have a poorly living pennywort in my big tank. Everything is doing so well in my 20gal. All Growing like weeds! :) Weird how different it is between the two tanks. guess the clowns dont help...

You are right about the plants that they wont touch. They wont touch the anubias or java fern at all. But I cant get the anubias to grow very well in there either. The java fern thats in the little tank seems to be doing better in the little tank also. Any ideas on that? Maybe I need to start toying with the co2 idea in the big tank. :( I dunno. Its frustrating. Not liking the wood I have in the big tank either. Need to get some real mopani. The oak seems to be growing fuzz again. Dont matter what I do or how long i wait it seems to just keep coming back. Take it out and scrub it down and it comes back. disappointing.

That's a bummer about the oak. Is it a white fuzz? I heard when wood is conditioning (when it's first added) it will get white fungus stuff and that is normal, and that BN's love it as well. It should go away? Hmm...

When i had my little 10g set up, my plants were pearling they were doing so well lol no co2 of course, I didnt even know what I was doing. It must be bc the smaller tanks will obviously have such a higher wpg with very little wattage, but the bigger you get you have to have such a high amount of watts just to get a good wpg. Bigger tanks are harder to reach that balance, as I'm learning very well at the moment lol.....

It's great having the little wigglies but I can't do any water changes, especially since they moved them to the new leaf, it's only a couple inches below the water line. Atleast my nitrites are gone though. Hopefully a little bit of ammonia doesn't kill my plants before this is over.....

I would say that 12 hours should be a good amount of time for a rescape lol. Of course it took me about a week to do mine scape to begin with   I think once you get the wood in there that you like, you'll be much happier with it. That will really add to all the hard lines of the stone.

My mom has a 125g and the only thing she can grow in there is java fern lol. She has anubias but it's not really growing, i would say it's just living. Moss usually does well in her tank though, so I would try some of that.  I've been toying with the idea of floating moss islands for my 10 gal shrimp tank Ive been dreaming of... It must be bc it's such a massive size tank, that if you have a minimum amount of light, it just gets lost. Thats the only thing I could think of, bc she gets her water from my tap bc hers is no good. Must be the lighting... how many watts do you have right now??

Holy cow, was just looking up angel videos and apparently, I should be expecting actual swimming fry tomorrow! yikes

i thought it would take longer than this... Ahh!!! lol

My cories spawned!!!!! I have no idea what's going on in my tank but i have cory eggs this morning. Not that many, I'm guessing the barbs grabbed some, but Im going to try and get them into the breeder net I have.

Snazy, what do i do?!?!?

It was white when it first started. But that was like a year ago. Its grey black fluffy stuff. looks like mold. Maybe thats why i'm having problems with my plants? Do you guys have any ideas on that?

Congrats on your spawning yet again! lucky girl you!

You are lucky that you have people around you that are into fish tanks too. Nobody that I know is really into it and every time I talk about it nobody gives a darn.. lol or knows anything about what i'm saying.. haha. I'm thinking i'm gonna take all the wood out and do some major water changes over the next few weeks and then get some new wood to put in. After i get my new lids that is! :)
