Boita Compatibility

The tank is only 330 litres but I can't even catch them unless I tear the tank down although its circling my mind as i am setting up a bigger tank at the moment.
I wish you luck with the challenge. I certainly wanted mine out of the tank a week after I bought them but they were impossible to catch with the current setup. The driftood trunk is hollow and is the bottom piece of 5 in total, also planted and some plants rooted on several pieces so it isn't an easy task at the moment. They particularly loved to make holes in older leaves and totally destroy new growth. I feed mlne with hikari and sera algae wafers for the veg part. They click eating them. Giving them cucumber and melon is also very good but my pleco won't let them approach the veg.

Edit: For the plants to root, get a few larger pebbles and put them aroud the root. Then remove them once it gets hold. That's what i do with the ones that keep floating. And let us know how you get on with the clowns. It worked wonders for me. Fingers crossed.

how old are those clowns?  Mine dont seem to be growing but I know they're eating :<

Wow, snazy... great video, I think you also picked the perfect song for it, it almost looked like the loaches were dancing to it ;)

I can't believe we didn't think about them just needing more veggies....

I know what you mean about not being able to catch them, I have a huge rooty piece of wood in my tank and they completely use it to their advantage lol.  It would be a bad day if I had to catch all of my fish in my tank, half the time I can't even find all of them.

I am not sure. I've had them for less than a year so I presume around 2 years old. They had a very visible growth spurt after I got them. They were small and rather thin, all the same size, now they are different lenth and very chunky. They eat a lot.  When I got them I started to feed the tank more because I was afraid they would make the corys starve to death as they are savages. They must be well fed now because they won't touch not only plants but the smallest of platy fry although they ate my cory fry through the breeder box last year. Here is a closer video.

Ah mine are just little over an inch in length, they were getting skinny so I put them in a tank by themselves and fed them alot and bloodworms and whatnot and they got a little fatter but one still died.  I plan to get a 5th soon so they have a group of 5 again still keeping an eye on them in my 125 gallon.  They do get their food but there are some faster fish in the tank that get their share first.  That will change though as time goes by

Some carry internal parasites, called skinny disease. Check it out online just in case as they'll keep getting skinny and die if not treated. Other than that, mine were skinny and small too but imagine that they are just juveniles and need a lot and regular, and varied feeding. Don't starve them, they are still kids. If possible, split the food twice a day and do as many big water changes as you can, because they love fresh water and don't like high organic levels and high nitrates. I do 50% weekly on mine and an extra one here and there and they seem fine with that. It keeps the levels in check. I kind of know by the TDS meter when the tank is gowing down and just do some extra water changes.

As for food, mine are half vegetarians and I don't feed much bloodworms or similar food to be honest. But i do feed them nice meaty sinking pellets as well. I have NLS 3-4 types, Hikari 2-3 types and other stuff that goes in for the guppies and platies. But i find it that theres less competition to feed them bite size food. Everyone gets equal share. But that's because my thank is full of bottom feeders and i don't want the timid and small ones to get underfed.

I do a 50% waterchange in all my tanks weekly so thats good to go in that area.  I did buy some Prazi Pro and the two thinnest clowns fattned up over the weeks I had them in a 20 gallon by themselves but the day I added the meds was the day the smallest died.  I do feed veggies but only my yoyo loaches seem to go crazy for them.

I do love hearing the clicking when I feed the tank with the clowns and yoyos

It all depends on the tank how much and how often the water changes should be but 50% works fine for me. If yours fattened up after the treatment it won't be long before they start growing. I don't know how many years it takes them to be fully grown but mine had a steady and visuble growth so far. I read that they slow down after a certain size.
I don't find them very friendly fish. They run away from me although I think I am closing the gap slowly.  It took me over a year to turn my pleco into a proper pet so I am trying to be patient :) and not take it personally.

Uggh. So frustrated with my tank!! Now my fish are showing signs of labored breathing... They've been so still today and not eating as much as usual, and my pictus is acting like he can't breathe. i uploaded a video in the emergency section, hopefully someone will tell me what's going on bc Ive been racking my bran all day and I can't think of anything... my water stats are great!

Sorry havnt been on in a few days. Hows the tank doing greenmumma? did you get it all straightened out? everything seems to be going good with mine, added a few plants in and even though i'm feeding lots of algae wafers they still sucked holes in them and dug them up, so I put some of my old tank gravel in there and it held them down. Lets see if they get eaten anymore.

I also added two 28w t5 lights to my main tank too. That should help those little plants grow a little better! also got a new algae eater for the little tank, he is a little over an inch long and cleaned the whole twenty gallon tank overnight. WOW!! :)

It gradually happened for me. Also make sure they do eat well without compromising the water quality of course.

My tank is in a state of duress lol... I got heavy handed when i was cleaning my sponges and apparently killed some of the bacteria and so I've been dealing with some nitrite and ammonia spikes and lost a good amount of fish

Ive been dosing with nitromax though and today I had no nitrites and a little bit of ammonia, but as long as the nitrites are down I think everything is going in the right direction now....

You should try some of the veggie wafers too, I know most of the algae wafers are mostly algae, but there are veggie ones with a lot of vitamins and nutrients that the plan algae ones don't have, my cories love them. I have the Omega One tabs

Im jealous of the new t5's

I wish I could bump up my lighting, my plants seem to be doing good though. Went back to that LFS that's a bit aways again today and scored a two HUGE clumps of java moss for 2 bucks a piece. Awesome deal. It's actually so much that Im looking for things to tie it to lol

What kind of algae eater did you get? a CAE?  My friend has one in her tank that is slowly turning albino, kinda creepy but cool at the same time. A lot of ppl don't like them, but I liked the one I had before, he was funny:)  plus you can't beat a nice clean tank!

BRISTLES! i completely forgot, you can see the bristles on my bn now

I took some pictures and I think a couple of them turned out pretty good, so Ill have to upload them to show ya

Well he is lookin good! The pleco i got is jst another bn. Im hoping this one is going to be a female and i can have some babies. That would be really cool. Then i will wish i had gotten two. But at seven bucks a piece i couldnt right now.

Im sorry your having a hard time with your tank. Must be so frustrating to finally get an upgraded tant and set it all up beautifuly and just have a heck of a time with everything!!! You will get it all stabilized soon. Just keep up on the water changes! If you were closer i would give you a big chunk of my filter media to get you back on track... Well keep us updated and so sorry for your loss with junkie. He was very beautiful!!!

What! I replied to this the other day, but I guess it didn't go through

It is very frustrating... now Im down to just 3 panda cories.  Everyone's appetite is back though and I'm not seeing any clenched fins, and no more nitrites and just a smidge of ammonia, so that's good. Now I just have to guess when I should stop dosing the Nitromax... Ill probably give it another full week just to make sure, it's live bacteria not meds so you can't have too much of it. It's great stuff.

Ive been thinking about adding another bn too, and I can't decide if I want a reg one or another albino, idk. they're hard to find around here, Im not sure if I want to drive 45 minutes for one lol.

It might sound silly, but my tank seems like a completely different tank without Junky. It seems more like I lost 10 fish, not just one. Maybe bc he was the biggest fish in there, idk, but it's too quiet and boring. I think once i get things settled Im going to get my yoyos, and that will perk things up.  I also need another bigger top swimmer, so I was thinking a group of rasboras would be cool, or a peal gourami. I think i could actually do both, but I don't want to add too much bc that shop also had baby pygmy cories  that i can't get out of my head. They were so tiny. I might need a little group of them  lol

Thanks for the condolences again :)

There is a guy locally that has albino bn's for 3$ each that he breeds. Have not decided if I want to try it out yet. At least with petsmart I have the guarantee! lol

I know how you feel about your tank being completely different without 1 fish. It was the same way for me when I got rid of blackie my BGK. He was my favorite fish but didnt fit with anything. One of those impulse buys that bites ya! It just is not the same without them. My clowns tore up the plants I put in there. They might be next... lol

Good luck in the near future, Hope you get your slime cleared up, fish back to where you want them and get back to enjoying the hobby again. :) Guess I got lucky going from the 55gal to the 130gal.. Could have been the same for me with all the issues!! I was running 3 filters on the 55gal though so that probably helped..
