Boita Compatibility

Yeah, you can love a fish, or group of them, as much as you want, but that doesn't mean they'll fit your tank. It's a learning process.  You have the yoyos, so at leat you wouldn't be loachless :)

I don't know if this is bc this is my first really big tank, first planted too, or what... Eagles was telling me it might be that my taking is getting a lot of light, and that's what is causing a lot of the slime/sludge.  My sponges are getting clogged again, obviously I won't be rinsing them out at all, ever, lol so not sure what to do about that, let them be clogged for now I guess.

I think I would like another bn, idk though. Maybe he's better as a lone wolf, who knows. I for sure need a LOT more ottos though, these poor guys are trying their best but what can 3 little otos do against all this slime..... hehehe. Plus it's really cool to watch them congregate together on the anubias leaves, then take off and start the day of cleaning. They're really cool little fish, I'm glad I finally have a tank that suits them...

Idk if you read the other thread, but I was hit with the flu the other day, and during one of my feverish nights, I was having really weird dreams, mostly about fish tanks lol.... and I had one dream about an awesome mountain scape that I just can't get out of my head, so I think I want to try it in my 10 gallon for a shrimp tank!! I would need a new filter, and heater and sand and such so I told my hub that Ill take it for a bday present (may 12) which is kinda a bummer I have to wait that long, but I think it will probably fly by.  And give me time to settle on a few of the ideas... Like do I want to do black substrate and dark rocks with a dark background? That's what I swore my next tank would be, but my dream was much more airy feeling, so I might go for light sand and a bluish sky background... hmmm... see, this could take ages to decided lol. And what shrimp to do?! maybe CRS or pumpkin shrimp....

How are the little yoyos doing???

The little guys are doing good. :) i think they are eating the plants too though... :( oh well i like them.

I bought my first piece of mopani wood today. Ten bucks. Petsmart has some cool ones for thirty bucks or so but i didnt have enough just yet... Lol will post pics when i get it in. Boiling it now. Is it super glue gel i need? For the plants that is

any super glue works, but I the get is so much easier to work with bc it doesn't run easily and quite frankly.... much easier to not glue your fingers together with ;)  I found with the gel, it is a bit more expensive and you need more tubes than the regular. Can't wait for pics, I really like the mopani wood, I think it will look really good with the hard edges of the stone in your tank.

That makes me nervous about the yoyos but there's no stopping me now, I was in petsmart picking up some supplies and had to take a peek at them again today and I cannot wait to bring them home

I think i might have to rehome two of my angels soon.. the other two look like they're pairing up, which I've never had happen before, and now they're bullying the other two.  They poor things are each stuck to one corner of the tank and the pair have the whole middle to themselves... which they keep cleaning and showing off for each other, so Im wondering if they're going to spawn? which would be cool, but I'll be sad to have to bring the others to a store :/ I was trying to think about how long I've had them, bc they've grown so much and then I realized that I just set the tank up a little over 2 months ago lol. It feels like it's been so much longer than that.

Have you tried cucumber or zucchini for the loaches? I think your bn would like it too, and Im pretty sure you have to boil it for like a minute first, but it's worth a shot if doing that once a week would keep them off your plants. They're cheap, and seems how you would only need one slice, you could cut the rest and try freezing it, then just thawing a piece out at a time. Just a thought :) naughty little loaches....

Here is a pic

its in my qt tank for now. My little bn needs the wood in there. Im pretty happy with it :) i think i got my 10$ worth!

Looks great!!! My fav. thing about my driftwood is watching my bn go in and out or the root pieces :)

The plants seem to be doing ok stuffed into holes on the wood so far :) I"m really liking the look of that piece in the small tank. Might be too small to put in the bigger tank at the moment. I'm thinking about doing a total resape again and see if I can screw it up again. hahaha. always takes me months to get it the way I want it after I do that.

Hows your fish doing greenmumma, No more casualties? Hope not! :)

I really like the mopani too, it's a great piece. It's funny how even small things like that can make a huge difference. Just adding little bits of moss to my tank made a huge differecne. Speaking of moss, I'm going to add my some pics to my journal so you should take a peek :)

No, no casualties.  My tank is getting back to its happy self, my cories are starting to dance again, it's funny bc they're much fatter since the last time the danced. These are the biggest cories I've ever kept, so that feels good :)  My angels have paired off, and I'm thinking there might be eggs in the near future, they are guarding the intake tube like a couple crazies....

Is it spring there? We were getting snow every day this past week, but it looks like spring this morning so Im crossing my fingers...

Are you allowed to say if you enter one of the contests?! :ninja:

I'm sure you can say what contest you entered. thats the idea is to get your friends to vote!!!

So I did a big water change on my little tank a couple days ago.. 90%.... and forgot to plug my heater in. Went down there last night and it was 54 deg... my little pleco didnt make it.. poor little guy! I fed everyone a couple hours before and he was still moving around. I feel horrible.. what a bad parent. good thing I dont have real kids!!!

I've done that several times. What saved me was that when I feed I normally put the food under water in order to make it sink and the colder water always makes me check the temperature before its too late :)

That was my first time forgetting the heater. I hope not to do that again. I think it was three days now.. My basement is 45 deg so it probably didnt take long to dip down. poor little guy

The worst i did before was forget the filter overnight. after a later feeding back when i used to turn the filter off when i fed.. now i dont have to.. it dont make it to the filter inlets anymore!!! lol

:rip: so sorry to hear about the little pleco!!  I've done the same thing many, many times.  Im just always sticking my hands in my tank so I notice if it's too cold. Such a bummer, but that doesn't make you a bad parent, trust me. I've felt the same way many times, especially lately, but you can't beat yourself up over a mistake.... Look at all the great things you've done for your fish!!

Sorry again :)

The funny thing is that I usually have my hands in that tank at least once a day!!! Guess I have just went through a "dry" spell lately.. haha

Boy, I understand that one. Sometimes I want to cry thinking about even turning the lights on hahaha.

My angelfish have spawned!!!! I just posted a video in the aquarium pictures and videos. Not sure if that's where I should post or not lol....

Great stuff mumma. I'll have a look :)
